Unit 5 Assignment
Complete the following exercise per the instructions below.
Submit a single Excel file with a labeled tab (Question 1). Submit a single Word file with any written answers for your questions (prepare your written answers in “words your grandmother would understand”). Please keep your data sheets in Excel legible and orderly and highlight or bold the answers. Prior to uploading your files to the Assignment Drop Box, name your files with your name and the assignment number (Todd Smith – Unit 5 Assignment). Make sure you run a spell check on your spreadsheet and Word file and complete your written analyses in Word using complete sentences and proper grammar. Use the same techniques we’ve gone over in class and show your work in Excel (I should be able to find your formulas in the appropriate cells).
1. Open and save the Unit 5 Assignment Excel file. Complete the analysis per the instructions below. Interpret your results in a separate Word file.
a) Calculate the correlation coefficient for each pair of variables (Poverty vs. IMR, IMR vs. LEB, and LEB vs. poverty) via the CORREL function (you will have three separate correlation values) b) Create a correlation matrix for the three variables via the Data Analysis Toolpak. c) Create a scatterplot with trend line for each pair of variables (3 separate charts). d) Tell me about each the relationship between each pair of variables (strength, direction, etc.). |
2. Describe a research hypothesis and a null hypothesis, the difference between the two, and what makes a good hypothesis. What is meant by a one-tailed and two-tailed hypothesis? Give an example of a related null and research hypothesis, both written and in mathematical notation.
3. Describe a correlation coefficient and tell me about strong and negative relationships (values) with correlation coefficients.
