2. You are required to make use of headings, paragraphs, and subsections as appropriate, and
all work must be supported with research and referenced using the Harvard referencing
system.
3. Please provide a bibliography using Harvard referencing system if you referred any sources
for theoretical parts or questions.
4. The document must be submitted to Turnitin in MS Word document.
5. The total word count (excluding bibliography) of the report should be around 2,500
words, but you will not be penalised for exceeding the word limit.
6. The file must be saved in the format: student ID-BL-Formative-A1, for formative
submission and student ID-BL-Summative-A1, for summative assignment.

Vocational Scenario (LO 1 & LO 2)
Shell, formally known as Royal Dutch Shell, here after referred as Shell Oman is one of the largest
and most prominent multinational energy companies in the world. It was formed in 1907 through
the merger of Royal Dutch Petroleum Company and Shell Transport and Trading Company. The
company operates in various segments of the energy industry, including oil and gas exploration,
production, refining, distribution, and marketing.
As an integrated energy company, Shell has a global presence and operates in more than 70
countries, including Oman. The company is involved in the exploration and production of oil and
gas reserves, both onshore and offshore, utilizing advanced technologies to extract hydrocarbon
resources. Shell has a strong focus on innovative techniques, such as deepwater drilling and
enhanced oil recovery, to maximize production efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
In Oman, Shell operates through its subsidiary, Shell Oman Marketing Company. The subsidiary
plays a vital role in the marketing and distribution of Shell-branded products, including fuels,
lubricants, and other energy-related services. Shell Oman Marketing Company operates a network
of service stations across the country, catering to the energy needs of consumers and industries in
Oman.
Shell Oman had entered a long-term supply contract with ExxonMobil Ltd, another prominent oil
company operating in the UK. The supply contract is for the provision of crucial equipment and
services. However, Shell Oman alleges that ExxonMobil Ltd has consistently failed to meet its
contractual obligations, resulting in substantial financial losses and significant project delays for
Shell Oman. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the matter amicably, the parties have been
unable to reach a satisfactory resolution.
As part of their litigation plans, they recognize the importance of understanding the UK legal
framework and legal system to ensure compliance and navigate any legal challenges that may arise.
Moreover, they still need to continue their existing contracts with ExxonMobil Ltd and other oil
companies in UK (British Petroleum and TotalEnergies) With this aim, Shell Oman approached
Curtis LLP a leading law firm of Oman having a branch in UK to advise them on Law and Legal system
of UK. You are a trainee consultant of the Firm was asked to prepare a litigation note which will
enable Shell Oman to refer on the legal system and help them to understand the key legislations
that are required to know for effectively running the business and to overcome legal challenges.

The litigation note should include:
a) Emphasize on the English Legal System and requires in depth information and knowledge
on how the legal system works.
b) Provide information regarding the role of the UK government in law making and the impact
of important business laws on business.
c) Provide an understanding on the key legislations that are required for effectively running
the business.
d) Provide a coherent and critical evaluation of the legal system and law, with evidence drawn
from a range of different examples to support judgments.
