The launch of the Challenger was so unfortunate. If I had been in that situation, I would have found a way to be more persistent regarding the meeting with NASA. In the video, there is a part where “Morton is on the phone with NASA, and he is telling him to postpone the launch. All he heard over the phone was the person from NASA appalled (Truth About Lies). This is where I would have continued to put my foot down—going up the chain of command to be heard. Attempting to get my objection to the launch in writing so that if something went wrong, I was not held liable.

The technique that I would have used is the Nominal Group Technique (NGT). This technique allows the leader to direct everyone in the meeting to create a list of ideas, solutions, disadvantages, or advantages (Hynes,2021). This technique allows for a group discussion of everyone’s views. This allows everyone to express their opinions without fear of being spoken down to. This is what happened with the meetings with NASA and Boisjoly, and Thiokol. No matter what the engineers said, they were not being listened to. It is always best to listen to everyone’s point of view, then decide collectively what is the best plan.
