BUS 501 Excelsior College Computer Mediated Communication Discussion Response

Based on Hireview’s hiring strategy, computer mediated communication impacts job interviews in several different ways that allow the interviewing process to be faster and overall a shortcut compared to physical in-person interviews. When first reading about how their product works, it is backed by science and eliminates implicit and explicit biases. There are areas of interest to the employer in which questions are already formed to best represent that area based on scientific evidence. Candidates are also automatically categorized based on the set criteria for the areas of interest, by a team of specialists. The other important component of this all is that interview responses can be done on-demand meaning anywhere and anytime. This creates a window of opportunity for a variety of candidates that may not have had the opportunity to interview at all. If I were to use this medium to interview a potential employee, I would definitely use the standardized questions to ensure consistency across all candidates and to help reduce biases in this process. Sometimes with in-person interviews, we may not realize it but we add a couple of words or may ask the same question in two different ways. This can result in very different answers based on how the interviewee perceives facial expressions and the wording of the question (Hiring Platform, 2022).
