In a prior discussion, you learned about the importance of understanding our values and integrating them into our daily life in a proactive way. In this discussion question, you will be learning more about the importance of understanding the purpose pillar, why purpose is important to effective decision making and relationship building, and discussing how this information can help you in working more effectively with others.

View these videos and respond to the following questions:

1. What points from these videos were particularly relevant and interesting to you? Why?
2. Using the readings, videos and any other materials and experiences you have, create a purpose statement. This statement is known by many other names, including personal mission or vision. The goal of this part of the exercise is to come up with a statement that you feel describes you, including the values that you identified in the first discussion, and what you stand for which will to help you in decision making and relationship building.
3. Describe the process you used and who you worked with to complete the exercise.
4. Were there any surprises?
5. Looking at the practical implementation of using a personal purpose statement respond to the following:Can you describe any experiences in working with others where you had a positive outcome? Could you, without realizing it, have employed your purpose as a way to start the work you are doing with others?Can you describe an experience which was not as positive as you would have liked. Could including the purpose information in your planning for this work with others made it more effective? How?
6. In a prior unit you identified a situation that you can use as a foundation for incorporating the pillars into decision making and relationship building. Using that same situation, if you were to include the purpose information, including your values, to ensure that you have the greatest opportunity for success, what would you do? Seek feedback from your peers. You may want to save this information using this GVV worksheet as an action plan for implementing the GVV approach in a real world situation.
