Download the African Elephants Data Set

Add a column after 2012 elephant population with the header “Average Population,” and use the AVERAGE formula to calculate the average elephant population for each country between 1979 and 2012.

Add a column with the header “Total Change” after the new “Average Population” column to calculate the total change in elephant population from 1979 to 2012.

In your new “Total Change” column, use Color Scales conditional formatting to display the largest changes in elephant populations, from red (largest decrease) to green (largest increase).

Add a column to the right of your “Total Change” column titled “Percent Change.” Use a formula to calculate the percent change since 1979 (this is equal to total change, divided by population in 1979).

Sort your entire sheet by percent change in decreasing order.

Add a line at the bottom for totals, and add a SUM formula to calculate the total elephant population in Africa for each of the columns.

Add three lines below your totals, and use formulas to calculate the (1) min, (2) max, and (3) range for each of the columns.

Create a new sheet (new tab) and name it “Summary.”

In cell A1, type the name of the country that had the biggest increase in elephants.

In cell A2, type the country with the largest percent decrease in elephants, and in cell B2, type the percent decrease amount.

In cell A3, type the range you calculated in the last step.
