Part 1

  • Introduce yourself to your peers by sharing something unique about your background. Explain how you expect this course will help you move forward in your current or future career.
  • While related, law and ethics are not the same. The law establishes what individuals must do, while ethics describes what individuals should do. What this means is that some things viewed as immoral may in fact not be illegal, and some illegal activities may not necessarily be immoral. For this discussion, pick one of the topics below and explain whether you think it’s immoral, and then whether you think it should be illegal. Make sure to fully explain and support your answer. Gambling with friends at work. Using marijuana at a party. Obtaining an abortion. Marketing sugary drinks to children.

My name is Nicole Penrod. I am a 53 yr. old grandma of 2 and mother of 3. An interesting part of my background is that in high school, although the class title was “Business Law”, we actually learned Criminal Law due to our teacher being a former criminal lawyer. That class was one of many that I aced.

I have chosen obtaining an abortion since that is continually a hot topic of debate.

On a personal and spiritual level, I am firmly against abortions. However.I also believe that what a person does in life is between them and God. That being said, I don’t believe government should have a say either way as to what a person does or does not do. There are some things the government just needs to stay out of. I know there are Christians who believe it should be made illegal and there are some who think it should be legal. My belief says we were created with the gift of choice in all we do. In this day and age, there is no such thing as ignorance of religious laws or moral codes. That being said, we need to retain our freedoms of choice when it comes to our decisions.
