Self-Development Plan: Becoming a Level 5 Manager
The path through my business management degree was truly eye-opening, involving an
in-depth exploration of the world of business and covering a broad range of concepts pertinent to
becoming a transformative leader. This reflection and self-improvement plan is dedicated to
examining how deep I can go in the wide-ranging business disciplines, assessing my capacities
against the program’s learning goals, and outlining a plan for my transformation into what Jim
Collins describes as a Level 5 manager—aa manager who is simultaneously extremely modest
and professionally vigorous.
Understanding Business Disciplines and Interdisciplinarity
My academic path has enriched me with a solid base of knowledge, which covers such
diverse areas of business as finance, marketing, operations, human resources, and many others.
Having analytical skills is not only a business problem-solving tool for me, but it also allows me
to understand how disciplines interact. I have learned that business problems today are solved in
a way that uses inputs from multiple fields and produces a complete solution that is a product of
creativity. This interconnection has shown how important flexibility and adaptability are to my
career goals, making sure that they are in line with the dynamics of the business environment.

Evaluation of Talents, Skills, and Competencies
Going back to my specific learning objectives for the program, I realized my strong
capabilities and the areas I needed to work on in my skill set. The business analytics and strategy
courses I have taken have honed my analytic skills, which allow me to think through problems
systematically and make decisions based on data. My leadership and teamwork skills have been
strengthened by group projects and presentations, enabling me to lead with confidence and work
well with others.
I understand the importance and need for improving my emotional intelligence and
conflict resolution abilities. As a leader striving to attain the highest level of my capacity, it is
fundamental for me to learn how to deal with emotions, may it be mine or my teammates’, to
effectively navigate and address disagreements in a proper manner.
Personal Plan of Action Toward Level 5 Leadership
I must concentrate on improving various professional areas and cultivate lifelong learning
to enable me to accumulate the necessary skills and competencies to become a shrewd level 5
manager. My self-development plan includes:
Enhancing emotional intelligence
4
Emotional intelligence is the cornerstone of good leadership. With it, leaders are able to
tap into empathy, understand and manage their emotions, and sensitively navigate mutual
relationships. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of how emotions influence actions
and decisions within a team, I intend to attend workshops and seminars that focus on emotional
intelligence. These training programs can give one the tools for self-insight, self-control, and
social skills that are absolutely needed in building a positive atmosphere of trust in a team.
Developing my emotional intelligence will also give me the tools to deal better with stress and
change so that I can lead my group with compassion and resilience.
Developing conflict resolution skills
In any team setting, conflict is unavoidable. However, the way you handle it is what
distinguishes you as a good leader. I plan to engage in conflict resolution and negotiation
workshops to build up the skills I need to resolve conflicts in a confident and fair manner.
Through role-playing scenarios and constructive feedback, I will learn what it takes to recognize
the roots of conflict, communicate effectively to understand different sides, and find solutions
that work for everyone. Apart from the fact that training in collaborative skills will improve team
5
cohesion, it also contributes to a more innovative and productive working environment, as
conflicting viewpoints are now harmoniously incorporated.
Nurturing a Culture of Humility and Steadfastness
Level 5 leadership is a combination of personal humility and professional will, which are
very distinctive. Achieving a healthy mix of this requires deliberate self-evaluation through
actions such as seeking feedback, admitting wrongdoings, and learning from mistakes.
Consequently, a team atmosphere with open communication and a culture of continuous
improvement is created. At the same time, I will work on toughening my professional spirit
through setting ambitious yet achievable goals, relentless pursuit of accomplishment of the
assigned tasks, and demonstration of personal example. This will ensure that I constantly strive
for quality and, at the same time, help me maintain a sense of togetherness and collaboration in
my team.
Expanding interdisciplinary knowledge
In today’s world, which is so focused on agility and competition, staying on top requires
the willingness to continually learn and express openness to new ideas. I aim to further my
education via online courses and certifications in the spheres of digital transformation and
6
sustainability to broaden my awareness and stay updated with the latest trends. Such a
multidisciplinary approach will not only contribute to the growth of my strategic thinking and
decision-making skills but will also help me manage my organization more efficiently amidst the
challenging complexities of the global business landscape. Adopting a lifelong learning attitude
will allow me to lead with foresight and agility, inspiring my team and organization to attain
sustainable success.
Engaging in leadership opportunities
The role of real-life leadership experience in the development of leadership skills and
knowledge learned through formal education and training cannot be emphasized enough.
Through taking the lead in the workplace and in community organizations, I will be able to lead
diverse teams, plan strategic initiatives, and make significant decisions. These situations will
force me to up the ante on my emotional intelligence, conflict management skills, and
transdisciplinary knowledge in dynamic and, at times, unpredictable circumstances. These
leadership opportunities will not only speed up my personal and professional growth but also
give me the possibility to have a real impact on my community and industry.
