Jennifer Tidwell1. Social media can improve the employment process by delivering a varied interview approach. They help businesses examine applicants beyond resumes by revealing their personality and professional manner through profile analysis. LinkedIn promotes networking and recommendations, increasing talent pool and hiring quality. Social media lets employers exhibit company culture, encourage participation and openness, and test candidates’ communication abilities via Zoom or Skype. Social networking sites can save hiring costs and time while expanding the candidate pool, especially for younger people. These sites also attract passive job seekers, improving talent acquisition (Villeda et al., 2019).
Employers, especially in the hospitality industry, benefit from including work samples or job auditions in the interview process as it allows for the evaluation of candidates’ service quality and practical skills. Hiring managers can gain invaluable personal insights from candidates by using this method to demonstrate their expertise in tasks directly related to the position. Providing the applicant’s abilities allows applicants to show off their abilities in authentic situations as face-to-face employees interact with clients to comprehend their demands. Using these exercises to assess applicants helps managers find creative people with solid problem-solving skills who can adapt to various service scenarios and exceed customer expectations while supporting organizational innovation initiatives. Applicants who perform well in these tasks are more likely to understand customers’ demands and promote organizational success, so this evaluation approach directly improves service quality and customer happiness (Engen & Magnusson, 2018).
I have firsthand experience of this strategy’s efficacy in job interviews. I was required to provide work samples demonstrating my skills as a banquet server. This activity involved showing my ability to successfully arrange a table for a dinner setting, effectively carry a tray across a room, and understand a banquet event order form. Completing these tasks offered concrete proof of abilities and comprehension of the position, improving the interview process.
Asynchronous video interviews, or AVIs, have many benefits that improve the interview process. They provide unmatched flexibility in schedule and location, obviating the need for intricate travel logistics and scheduling arrangements. AVIs allow recruiters to assess candidates’ answers independently and review them as necessary. This feature improves the comprehensiveness of the evaluation procedure, allowing recruiters to decide on candidate suitability with more excellent knowledge. Additionally, the development of AVIs has been beneficial during and after the COVID-19 epidemic, enabling secure interview procedures in the context of existing social distancing guidelines (Basch et al., 2021).

(a) Adopting a friendly, positive, and respectful demeanor can enhance the interview process. Behroozi, Shirolkar, Barik, & Parnin (2020) found that interviewers who exhibited rudeness and disrespect left unfavorable impressions on candidates, who are then likely to share these negative experiences with others.
(b) Interviewees are more at ease when interviewers provide gentle guidance and hints, especially when a candidate encounters difficulty with a question. By offering strategic assistance, the interviewer can steer candidates back on track, facilitating a more productive and less stressful interview experience.
(c) It is advisable to inform all candidates of their interview outcomes, regardless of the decision. Communicating results to every applicant allows them to conclusively end their application process with the organization and proceed to other opportunities, thereby ensuring a respectful and considerate closure.

Suggestions for Improving the Interview Process:1. Clarification in Job Posting and Pre-Interview Communication:Clear communication upfront can prevent confusion and set appropriate expectations for candidates (George, 2023). HR should provide comprehensive information in the job posting and pre-interview communication about the cluster-based hiring strategy. This includes explaining the rationale behind involving multiple property managers, how the cluster system operates, and the benefits it offers to both the company and candidates. Additionally, HR should ensure that the property assigned aligns with the candidate’s preferences and career aspirations to avoid potential mismatches and wasted resources.2. Optimizing the Number of Interviewers:Implementing a phased interview approach can mitigate overwhelm for candidates (3Back.io, 2023).The company should initiate the process with an HR interview to assess general qualifications and cultural fit. Subsequent interviews can involve specific property managers based on candidate preferences and property-specific needs. This structured approach ensures focused evaluations and reduces redundancy in questioning.3. Enhancing Interviewer Engagement through Preparation:To ensure the validity and effectiveness of interviews, thorough preparation is essential to elicit the desired information from candidates. (SHRM, 2024). Varying interview styles and experience levels can also cause interviewers to work against each other inadvertently (Newsome, 2023).Conducting training sessions for interviewers is crucial to enhance their engagement levels during interviews. Furthermore, assigning clear roles and responsibilities to interviewers helps maintain consistency and ensures a thorough assessment of candidate competencies. This structured approach not only improves the quality of interviews but also enhances the overall candidate experience and the accuracy of hiring decisions.
