Your initial post must contain a total of at least six sentences (not six sentences per question) and is worth 50 points. You must also submit two responses. Each one of your two replies must contain at least three sentences with substance. Responses such as “I agree”, “you are right”, etc. are welcome but do not earn any points. Do not use texting style grammar such as LOL. Please use proper capitalization and punctiation.

Question 2

Researchers and physicians over the last few years have learned how to implant devices into the brain of both animals and humans in the effort to allow the brain to interface with a computer which then controls machines – and sometimes the machine is a prosthetic limb or even an ear implant. This has progressed from ‘science fiction’ to medical practice in the span of a few years. Now, there is speculation that this trend will evolve into a standardized interface which allows the human brain to communicate with a computer. Just imagine, with a wireless router installed (along with your RFID implant) you could just think of your child’s IP address (telephones will probably be obsolete), the computer in your eyeglasses connects to the Internet, and in no time you can communicate with them without saying a word – your thoughts can be sent to them – or, if you’re an old curmudgeon who isn’t comfortable with that protocol, you can just send them a Notepad file instead.Do a little bit of online research on “BrainGrate” or “Brain-Computer Interface” and comment on your findings. Feel free to use the questions below to help formulate your initial post.

1. Provide a link to an online video or article relating to this topic.2. What do you think this foretells for computer operating systems?3. In what cases could it be useful?4. What skills will you need to work the BrainGatehelp-desk?5. Could this help soldiers with TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and injuries from IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices)?6. Is our society moving toward that old Star Trek “Borg concept” of a collective consciousness?
