Introduction
The business has undergone transformations due to technological advancements and the
exponential growth of digital information. In this era where information is abundant, it has
become crucial for organizations to effectively manage and govern their data to ensure
compliance minimize risks, and make decisions (Wilburn et al., 2018). Acme Corporation, an
established company, understands the significance of creating an Information Governance (IG)
program to tackle the issues associated with its data resources. As the designated Chief
Information Governance Officer (CIGO) at Acme Corporation, I have drafted a proposal that
presents a plan for implementing an Information Governance program within the organization.
Company Overview
Acme Corporation is a standing manufacturing company that has operated for over five
decades. Acme Corporation is known for its array of products and services, offering exceptional
solutions to cater to the needs of its customers. Having established a presence, the company has
earned the trust and loyalty of clients across different industries. Over the years, Acme
Corporation has had comprehensive, diverse data categories, including business records,
customer details, and valuable marketing insights (Tuhin, 2019). This data exists in both
documents and digital formats.
Acme Corporation operates in an industry that is constantly changing and highly
competitive. Companies need to be flexible and adaptable to succeed in such an environment.
Regardless of the field, data and information are essential today, affecting various sectors like
finance, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and technology. Across industries, businesses
encounter a range of obstacles when it comes to handling data (Shamim et al., 2019). These
2

challenges include safeguarding data to maintain security, adhering to privacy regulations
upholding data quality standards, and implementing data management tactics.
The Acme Company has successfully adjusted to the digital age by storing customer
information in a database. However, they are currently dealing with data accuracy and
duplication issues due to management. Acme Corporation understands the importance of
implementing data handling policies to ensure compliance protect data security, and respect
privacy (Bag et al., 2021). Acme Corporation is also looking into tapping into the marketing
potential of social media platforms to support its growth strategy. However, the company
recognizes that it needs an understanding of the policies and legal aspects surrounding social
media usage.
The company has established a department led by the Chief Information Governance
Officer (CIGO) to address these challenges and take advantage of the opportunities. The role of
the CIGO is to oversee aspects of our business, ensuring that information is managed and
governed appropriately. As the company information officer, one of my primary goals is to
implement a robust information governance program. This program will promote data
management, enabling us to make informed decisions and comply with regulatory requirements
(Mikalef et al., 2020).
Resources
The implementation of the program will use various resources. First, best practices and
information governance frameworks are vital in implementing such programs in the
manufacturing industry. These frameworks offer insight into developing information governance
strategies, policies, and controls (Metalidou et al., 2018). Acme Corporation plans to incorporate

established frameworks, like the Information Governance Initiative (IGI) framework, and adhere
to the ISO/IEC 27001 standards.
Second, the company will engage legal experts in intellectual property, compliance, and
data privacy. Legal professionals possess expertise and knowledge that can help ensure that
Acme Corporations Information Governance program complies with legal obligations and
mitigates potential legal liabilities. Third, Acme Corporation plans to utilize industry
associations and conferences specializing in information governance and data management.
These events can provide opportunities to connect with professionals, access resources, and stay
updated with the latest trends and best practices.
Lastly, the company plans also to invest in data management software solutions. This can
ensure data compliance and integrity and streamline the data management process through
features like data lineage, data classification, quality management, and classification (Tutunea,
2019). Additionally, the company will also leverage education and training programs for
employees. Through this training, employees will learn more about data privacy, protection, and
information governance, enhancing adherence to data procedures and policies.

Scenario:
You have recently been hired as a Chief Information Governance Officer (CIGO) at a large
company (You may choose your industry). This is a newly created position and department
within the organization that was founded on the need to coordinate all areas of the business
and to provide governance of the information. You will need to hire for all positions within
your new department.
The company has been in business for more than 50 years and in this time has collected vast
amounts of data. Much of this data has been stored in hard copy format in filing cabinets at an
offsite location but in recent times, collected business data is in electronic format stored in file
shares. Customer data is being stored in a relational database, but the lack of administration
has caused data integrity issues such as duplication. There are currently no policies in place to
address the handling of data, business or customer. The company also desires to leverage the
marketing power of social media, but has no knowledge of the types of policies or legal issues
they would need to consider. You will also need to propose relevant metrics that should be
collected to ensure that the information governance program is effective.
The CEO and Board of Directors have tasked you to develop a proposal (paper) that will give
them the knowledge needed to make informed decisions on an enterprise-wide Information
Governance program, addressing (at a minimum) all of these issues, for the company.
Requirements:
The paper should include at a minimum of the following sections:
a. Title page
b. Executive Summary (Abstract)
c. Body
i. Introduction (including industry discussion – 1-2 pages)
ii. Annotated Bibliography (2-3 pages)
iii. Literature review (2-3 pages)
iv. Program and technology recommendations, including:
1. Metrics
2. Data that matters to the executives in that industry, the roles for
those executives, and some methods for getting this data into
their hands.
3. Regulatory, security, and privacy compliance expectations for
your company
4. Email and social media strategy
5. Cloud Computing strategy
d. Conclusion
e. References
2. You must include at least two figures or tables. These must be of your own creation. Do
not copy from other sources.
3. Must cite at least 10 references and 5 must be from peer reviewed scholarly journals
(accessible from the UC Library).
4. This paper should be in proper APA format and avoid plagiarism when paraphrasing
content. It should be a minimum of 8 pages in length (double-spaced), excluding the
title page and references.
Milestones:
•
•
•
•
Milestone 1 – Introduction Section – A 1-2 page paper describing the industry chosen
and potential resources to be used.
Milestone 2 – Develop a full annotated bibliography (2-3 pages).
Milestone 3 – Develop the literature review (2-3 pages).
