Your designs for the three posters will be quite abstract, as the only elements you’ll be able to use are simple shapes (e.g., squares, circles, triangles, etc.), scale, and value. Though the designs you create will be abstract, you can think of this assignment as an exercise on how to effectively use proximity and similarity for future projects in your graphic design career. You’re strongly encouraged to create sketches of how you want your designs to look. Pay close attention to the impact that proximity and similarity have on communicating a message.SetupOnce you’ve settled one some designs that you’ve sketched out, create an Illustrator document that’s 24 x 24 inches, with three (3) artboards. Set the color mode to CMYK.Start the DesignsOnce you have your file setup, start designing. You’re welcome to use the entire artboard however you wish. You may wish to make some shapes very small and some shapes very large. You may wish to have shapes run off the edges of the poster. That’s completely fine, as long as your designs are within the following constraints:

Simple geometric shapes only; you’re not allowed to create shapes of people, faces, hearts, etc.

  • The entire poster must be black and white. You are allowed to use shades of gray.
  • The background for each poster must be the same. (All white, all black, or all gray) Whatever you choose, make sure that your shapes have enough value contrast so that they stand out well enough against the background.

  • You are allowed to use opacity or transparency in your designs.
  • Each poster must use proximity and similarity to communicate essence of the word in each poster.

  • You must include a title in each poster.
  • You can position it wherever you wish, as long as it’s in the same position in each poster.

  • Use the typeface Corbel Bold.
  • There’s no restriction on font size, but considering these are posters, it must be large enough to read comfortably from a few feet away.
