1. For the following questions, use the file “Earthquakes.csv”. There is a header in the data.
This dataset consists of information about Worldwide Earthquakes of Magnitudes 6–6.9, 7–
7.9, and 8 for the years 2000–2007. This information came from usgs.gov.
(a) How many earthquakes are there per year?
(b) How many earthquakes are there per magnitude category (Magnitude)?
(c) For each magnitude category (Magnitude), find the average year that the earthquakes
occurred.
(d) Make a histogram displaying the frequency of earthquakes per year. Have the break
points be the years 2000, 2001, . . . , 2008. Make the histogram such that the cells are
right-open (left closed) intervals.
(e) Does it appear that any year had more earthquakes than the other years, i.e. are any
years outliers and why? If necessary, provide an appropriate chart.
2. For the following questions, use the file “glass.data.txt”. There is a header in the dataset and
is comma delimited.
Dataset information: The study of classification of types of glass was motivated by criminological investigation. At the scene of the crime, the glass left can be used as evidence. Column
information:
