Most of you are familiar with the basics of our criminal justice system and some of you may have first hand experience on hopefully, a very low level (speeding tickets, MIP, cell phone or texting tickets) 🙂

As we progress in the course, I am looking for your Posts to reflect an understanding of the chapter as applied to current events. I would like to see some good analysis and critical thinking. Demonstrate you understand the meaning of new terms and can properly apply them. Extra points for spotting cross-over issues such as yelling at a golf match (US Open) or how about screaming “Fire” in the middle of a movie at a  crowed movie theater. Remember to use the Rule of Law- what is the law and how does it apply?

So feel free to discuss current events or subject matter in the chapter which interests you.

Although there is no substitute for the classroom, the discussion board gives you the opportunity to express you views and evaluate the perspectives of your peers. This chapter lends itself to some very diverse perspectives (IE. the legalization of pot, the Death Penalty, Illegal Immigration, etc.) and crosses over with some Political Science Issues.

Let me ask you this– What, if anything, is the difference between sentencing someone found guilty of Bank Robbery vice white collar fraud like the situation with Mr. Madoff or Enron? What about the high profile cases in San Diego like Randy Duke or Betty Broderick-  What are your thoughts on sentencing?

Is Torture ever Justified? Suppose a man has planted a bomb in New York City, and it will explode in twenty-four hours unless the police are able to find it. Should it be legal for the police to use torture to extract information from the suspected bomber?

You have done a super job with the posts and replies (so so job on your Subject Lines). Keep up the good old fashion hard work and enjoy your discussion board.

Bonus- What do you think? Murder or Mitigation? Enjoy…..
