BUSI 2390 Alexander Hamilton Preparatory Academy Business Law Discussion

Discussion Forum 9For this discussion forum post, find a legal news story about an intellectual property
law case that is worth sharing with the class. In order for the story to be relevant to this
week’s topic, make sure that it is about copyright, patent, or trademark infringement.
There are a lot of stories about counterfeit goods and companies that have tried to profit
off someone else’s creation. For example, think about fashion items and name brands,
music and lyrics, technological advances and inventions.
Also, make sure that the news item you choose has some sort of legal significance.
The reason why you are sharing this story is because it should be of some interest to
you, me, and your classmates (keep in mind that this is a Business Law class!). The
purpose of this discussion forum is to find a real-world, relatable example of an
intellectual property law case.
Please provide a hyperlink to the story you have selected under your references.
If you cannot find a relevant intellectual property law story via an Internet search,
then you may write a summary about a common law intellectual property law case
and then explain why it is important in the context of this Business Law class. Make
sure to provide a hyperlink to the case law. Also, use the format of a Case Brief (see
the instructions for writing a Case Brief in Discussion Forum 8).
Important: make sure to put the case name in the “subject” line of your post so that
everyone knows what case you are writing about.
Note: if a student has already posted about a news story or case, then you must post
about a different story or case. This means that you must read the other students’ posts
so that you avoid duplication. If you write about a story or topic that has already been
covered by a classmate, then the maximum score you can receive is 2/6 for this
discussion forum.

Chapter 15 Discussion Forum
For this week’s post we are engaging in a discussion about financial literacy in the
context of credit and bankruptcy.
There are links to two videos below. The first is for a documentary about the U.S.
financial crisis but elements are certainly applicable to Canada as well. It is prophetic
in that the movie was produced before the credit crunch and mortgage crisis (which,
together, contributed to the Global Financial Crisis of 2008). What you may find
interesting is how students are profiled/portrayed in this documentary.
The second video is about the Asian Financial Crisis and how it should have been a
warning to the rest of the World that financial safeguards at the global scale should
have been implemented prior to 2008. The AFC was definitely prophetic and what
happened in Asia should have led to stricter financial regulations in the rest of the
World. Unfortunately, the GFC hit hard and now we are reeling from a global battle
with inflation, failing cryptocurrency markets, and a soaring cost of living due to
post-pandemic supply chain issues, labour shortages, and depleted resources.
Your task for this week is to watch both documentaries and comment on ONE
ASPECT in the videos that you find interesting. MAKE SURE TO TELL US
WHERE IN THE VIDEO IS THE PART THAT YOU ARE DISCUSSING.
This forum may lead you down many different paths, such as: commenting on the
Asian Financial Crisis, the Global Financial Crisis, or contributing to the recent and
on-going debate about the high cost of living in Vancouver and whether it is
sustainable, or the economic effects of COVID-19 and the global pandemic.
