1. Describe the signs and/ or symptoms that made you decide on the patient selectionexplain possible correlation.
• Patient stated that she does bruxism at night.
• Press her teeth during the day.
• Attrition was observed on the mandibular and maxillary anterior teeth.
• There was slight wear on the mandibular molars occlusal flat.
• Bilateral linea alba, which is a sign of bruxism.
• Shinny cusps on the mandibular molar that shows the bruxism is active.
• After looking at this signs when I asked her about is she has ever experienced headache in the
morning, she said sometimes but not often when she wakes up and didn’t know that it can be
because of the bruxism habit at night with out having a mouth guard.
2. Describe the intra and/ or extra oral signs presented by your patient that may be related to
TMD( include photos )
Radiographic sign and symptoms:
• Widened PDL on tooth # 15 MD, # 14 D, #13 M,
• Thicken lamina dura on ….
• Maxillary and Mandibular attrition on the anterior teeth that is obvious on the radiograph
too.
Clinical signs:
• Shinny cusps on the mandibular molar that shows the bruxism is active.
• Attrition was observed on the mandibular and maxillary anterior teeth.
• Bilateral linea alba, which is a sign of bruxism.
• There was slight wear on the mandibular molars occlusal flat.
3. Upon completion of your assessment, what information and recommendation were
provided to your patient.
• Due to those sign and symptoms with experiencing headache sometime when she wakes up
in the morning, I recommended night guard to protect the occlusal.
4. How did you proceed with the dental hygiene services for this patient – provide an
approach and rationale?
