This
ad features
a group of men lamenting over the Philadelphia Eagles’ tragic Superbowl loss, while putting on Dove deodorant. They then go into the public and offer free hugs to anyone sharing their grief. The tagline at the end of the ad indicates that Dove antiperspirant “Gives you the confidence to care.” This ad resonated with me because, were I on the receiving end of an unexpected hug, I would certainly prefer that the person smell fresh. Similarly, I would not accept the hug were I not confident that I was odor free. This message can also be interpreted as having the confidence to show emotion, which men are not typically encouraged to do. #HugLikeADoveMan (

“According to a new research study commissioned by Dove Men+Care, underarm distractions can hold men back from performing simple acts of care – including hugging – with 81% saying that sweat is a consideration that would prevent them from hugging someone.” (PR Newswire, Feb.2023)
