NATS 1870: UNDERSTANDING COLOUR (online)Short Assignment Requirements

And, the best way to teach is to… ask questions!
For each of the 4 short assignments in the course, you will design – ‘ask’ – two complete multiple-choice
questions. One question will be based on the assigned readings, and another question will be based on
lesson notes/videos. Let your creative juices flow, and new neural pathways fire away, as you take a turn at
being ‘teachers’ by creating new questions within the guidelines and constraints listed below.

To submit your short assignment – the two multiple-choice questions – you will simply enter the text of
your questions in the Assignment 3 Submission link, on the course home page in eClass.

FACTUAL QUESTION (1 mark)
Create a multiple-choice question based on the assigned course readings, from the relevant lesson
assigned based on your last name (see table on the first page).
•
question should be ‘facts-based’ (such as definition-question, history-question, or any other ‘lookit-up’ type question)
•
question must have at least 4 answer options (a, b, c, d)
•
question must have only 1 correct answer, and this answer must be clearly indicated with a text line
below the question (eg: ‘Answer: B’)
•
must include the reference to the readings (source and page) used for your question

CONCEPTUAL QUESTION (2 marks)
Create a multiple-choice question based on the lesson slides and/or videos, from the relevant lesson
assigned based on your last name (see table on the first page).
•
question should be a ‘conceptual’ (or ‘application’) type of question (rather than ‘look-up-theanswer’ type question), requiring a higher-order problem-solving effort to be done, to arrive at the
answer. Try to create questions that address some of the more challenging concepts in the lesson,
and/or ask the reader to solve a problem (such as ‘how would we do this?’, ‘what if we changed
variable X, how would it affect the outcome?’, compare/contrast scenarios, etc). Higher marks will
be given for the more challenging concept-based questions, while facts-only questions will earn
partial marks only.

Questions determined to be copied from other sources will receive a grade of zero, at the very minimum,
and may be subject to further academic-dishonesty investigations.
