regulate agriculture and the food-processing industry. Its mandate includes
monitoring farm animals for avian flu and mad cow disease and ensuring the safety
of food additives. Although the agency regulations have made food safer, each year
many Canadians contract food-borne illnesses.

Emergency and Response
Emergencies are serious unexpected dangerous situations that require immediate actions
or responses. Emergencies are unpredictable and they can happen anywhere at any given time
creating a change in scope or impact. Information can be a life-saving intervention as it may
provide protection and readiness for life-threatening situations in this case emergencies. In my
local area, the information on emergency preparedness is very critical as it may play a major role
in preventing fatalities and injuries. Emergency information gives room for a plan to be executed
in preparation or response to an incoming emergency (Insights, 2019). Information on
emergency preparedness and response paves the way to recognizing hazardous conditions that
may aggravate emergencies and can be eliminated earlier before it becomes a threat.
Through this information, certain issues may be brought to light such as a lack of
adequate resources like equipment that can be rectified before an emergency comes into place.
The same information promotes safety awareness and portrays the resident’s commitment to the
safety of the other members of the community. With this information, it becomes easier to
protect the environment and access the means available to prevent the situation as it arises or
how to respond to such situations. Though emergencies will always occur, being well versed
with the necessary information on its preparedness is essential (W.V, 2020). Once an emergency
occurs a lot of decisions need to be made within a very short period. Therefore having this
information may play an important role in saving a life or preventing property damage. This
information acts as a guide as to how a response should be made in the event of an emergency.
Most of the people in my local area have been educated and provided with the necessary

information on emergency preparedness and response thus responding to lots of emergencies that
have come our way.
