The primary assignment in this course will be a written paper based on the third lab. The topic of lab will be insulative materials, and you can approach it from the various aspects of science as it relates to the concepts we are covering in the course (Environment, Politics, Business, etc). You may select any area of science that interests you but the topic MUST be approved by your instructor. Your choice must be submitted on the assignment posted on Canvas. Your topic will be approved on a first come first serve basis, as a limited number of students from each section may select a singular topic. Outline of paper:

Your paper should include the following parts to make a cohesive research paper; remember to transition between all of these parts, not just jump from one thing to the next:

Introduction: What about insulation will you be talking about? Why is it important?

Body: The body of your paper should include the following areas: scientific background on your topic in science, , what’s the scientific research going on about the topic, what future work can be done, and how does it tie into the areas of life. Describe a type or issue with insulation that you want to test. Explain the parts of the scientific method.

Describe your results. Because this is a longer paper, multiple paragraphs may be used in order to establish your point and support for each of these areas.

Conclusion: This should summarize what you discussed in your paper. Restate your thesis and the main support and have a concluding statement.

The essay will be graded with the Dialogues of Learning Written Communication Rubric. Be aware that all submissions to Canvaswill be run through Turnitin to check for originality. Therefore, it is expected that you may need to submit and revise multiple drafts before your final submission by the assignment deadline. Attached is the data that I collected for the experiment and what I was testing.

Here is the data for three different types of cups, I ran the experiment a little long, but you can see the time in the first column, the second is seconds, the remaining for are the temperatures in Celsius for each of the materials.

I’ve also included a graph you can use in your paper too.

Methodologies
For my experiment, we are testing which is a better insulator: foam cup, paper cup, and
reusable metal. I would like to see which material keeps hot water from getting cold.
