■ This page discusses a mathematical study of long-range
forecasting. The researchers found that skillful forecasts
can only extend to 10-14 days at best, because of the
chaotic nature of the atmosphere. This was interesting
since the study showed that in spite of what some of the
weather apps provide, detailed weather forecasts can’t
be made really far into the future. It also made me think
about the ultimate limits of technology in general.

A good place to get ideas for the weekly weather
website is the WeatherBrains podcast
(http://www.weatherbrains.com). The podcast
participants contribute websites each week; in
each weekly post, scroll down to “Web Sites
from Episode XXX” for a listing.
■ The daily news often has weather stories with
further links.
■ This should probably be done in a word
processing file, not the spreadsheet.
