are the software capabilities being integrated?
What is the physical component one is getting from a vendor? (2) What is the software capabilities being
integrated? For example, a paddleboard that you get from a vendor (physical component). Your company
would integrate a display that provides a map, trip distance, total distance, clock, trip time, current, wind
speed, etc. (software capabilities). Also you would have a smartphone app (iOS/Android) and possibly an
iWatch app that you can interface with and share your data with friends.
Part 1 – Submit the following

A SINGLE Word Document that includes/combines (EACH PERSON IN A GROUP
MUST SUBMIT INDIVIDUALLY, BUT CAN BE THE SAME WORD DOCUMENT)

Introduction
In the spirit of Shark Tank, each person or group will create a virtual company that will obtain a base
product (hardware) that you get from a vendor. Your company will create software application(s)
and then integrate the software with the hardware as part of your company’s overall operations.
For example, a person could do a virtual reality project using one of the following high end Virtual
Reality / Augmented Reality products: (1) Microsoft Hololens (only available for developers), Oculus
Rift, and HTC Vive or other lesser versions that one can use with their smartphone such as Samsung VR
integrated with home remodeling software for a virtual home decorator bundle.
When thinking about your offering, it will be helpful to review Michael Porter and his discussions on
Organizational Strategy. The entities providing your startup funding will demand this and more as part of
a business plan, but for the purposes of this course you will only need to create four components of
Organizational Strategy listed above.
Porter Organization Strategy (44pts)
1) Industry Structure (15pts) – Complete a Five Forces Model for your company using the Five Forces
template found in Canvas in the Final Project Assignment. Fill in the factors of each threat along with a
brief assessment explanation of each threat (each should be a phrase / 1 to 2 sentences).
2)Value Chains (14pts, 2pts each primary and 1pt each support activity) – Use the Value Chains template
template found in Canvas in the Final Project Assignment. Each activity should have 1-2 sentences
explaining how each primary and supporting activity is tailored to your company’s specific
implementation and not generic explanations. The template provides a brief explanation of each
activity along with links to more in depth explanations.

Business Process Modeling Notation (14pts + 2pts XC) – Create a BPMN diagram. You can use
PowerPoint to do this (all shapes are in PowerPoint). MIS Ch2 Section 2.2 has an example. Your
BPMN will look similar but not exact to the diagram in the book and should be tailored to your
company. Briefly explain (1-2 sentences) what each block is doing. For most groups, this is typically 1+
page(s) long. Include the diagram in your discussion.
3) Information Systems (15pts)
Complete the Information Systems template for email, website, and ERP systems. Include a screen
capture of each of these three in the information system discussion write up. For each component below
indicate whether you are choosing on site or cloud services. If using cloud services, specify whether IaaS,
PaaS, or SaaS for each Information System. Your justification of cloud vs on-site should include the cost
of a cloud service for four (4) years compared to the approximate cost to purchase the hardware and
software and system administrator costs if hosted on-site since hardware typically needs to be refreshed
each four years. Also include initial cost (capital) for the 1st month of operations. This provides an equal
comparison of on-site vs cloud.
a) Email (5pts) –Use the InfoSys Template to compare onsite vs Microsoft Office365 cloud costs. If
cloud, ensure you include which as-a-Service (“aaS”). Write a couple of sentences indicating
which solution and why based on initial costs (capital) and total costs (capital + 4 years of
operations).
b) Website (4pts) – Use the InfoSys Template to compare onsite vs Weebly cloud costs. If cloud,
ensure you include which as-a-Service (“aaS”). Write a couple of sentences indicating which
solution and why based on initial costs (capital) and total costs (capital + 4 years of operations).
c) ERP (6pts) – Since ERP includes Customer Resource Management, Manufacturing, Human
Resources, Accounting/Financials, and Inventory, groups can combine these functions using an
ERP system. Use the InfoSys Template to compare onsite vs Microsoft Dynamics cloud costs.
Pick at least one of the plans and a subplan (ie Operations>Supply Chain Mngt). Include
which plans you selected and why. Depending on the plan, the first user could have a
higher cost (ie $180/month) and users 2 and up are less (ie $30/month). If cloud, ensure you
include which as-a-Service (“aaS”). Write a couple of sentences indicating which solution and
why based on initial costs (capital) and total costs (capital + 4 years of operations).
Part 2 – Submit the following

PowerPoint file with the following:
o Slide with picture of 5 Forces Table only
o Slide with picture of Value Chains summary or BPMN diagram
o Slide with pictures of Information Systems (email, web, and ERP) Excel worksheets
o Slide with pictures of submitting sitemap via Google Search Console
o Website Link (URL) to yours or your teams Weebly website

Weebly (25pts)
(1) Go to www.weebly.com and Sign up. Once done, select “Try Weebly Websites” button for I
want a peresonal website. Do Not Choose “Try Square
Online”. Then pick a theme. One is not limited to
something in the Business theme, but I would start there.
Then select the Start Editing button. Next fill in the
domain name. NOTE – it will start with https://www and
end with weebly.com. Select Search and once you find a
unique name at the bottom, select Choose. For example,
https://www.yourcompany.weebly.com. This will avoid costs and
allow one to do free of charge. NOTE – After creating the domain,
weebly will strip off the www, so that your domain is
yourcompany.weebly.com. After creating the site, Weebly provides
themes to get you started, while not required, I recommend starting
with a Business theme. (3pts)
Pages / Menu Items – Depending on the theme, some pages will be created. One can go to Pages and
remove any pages that you do not want. For example, remove Services and Team. Although a group can
use the Team page if they like. Or individual students can create fictious team members. 2pts XC for a
Team Page. Please create the following pages:
(1) Home (5pts) – This is by default the first page created and should capture your audience’s interest
and suck them in. You usually have 5 – 10 seconds to do this. This metric is called Bounce Rate.
(2) Product(s) (5pts) – Create a Standard page type. This page should provide your audience with
all your product(s) that you plan on marketing.
(3) Contact (4pts) – Use a previously theme page or create a Standard page type. Assume your
company is a brick (physical) and click (website) model. One physical store and a website where
customers can purchase products from. This page should provide your audience with a map to
your store and a form to get more information. NOTE – After creating the contact page, in the
middle of the page, select Add Layout (middle of page) and select Contact Form with the
top design. Fill in an address such as 1 Barnard Dr. Oceanside, CA 92056 (MiraCosta
College address) or create a fictious address.
(4) Blog (8pts) – Create a Blog page type. You must create a blog page that contains at least 2 blog
entries. Weebly automatically creates a Really Simple Syndicate (RSS) feed.
Social Media (16pts) – Weebly enables persons to integrate the social media into their sites
(1) What business is a viable business these days without Social Media. Each person or group will
need to create one Social Media business sites. Some suggestions include: Facebook, Instagram,
Twitter, Pinterest, etc. This should be corporate vs individual accounts. The expectation is that
these are full sites and not barely created skeleton sites. (12pts).
Prof Rico Cassoni
CSIT120 Fundamentals of Computer Information Systems (CIS)
(2) The website should have a 2nd social media link for an email address (this can be fictitious such as
yourcompany@gmail.com) (4pts)
Your social media and email link should be on EACH WEBSITE page using the Weebly Social Media
tools.
Being Found on the Internet (10pts)
(1) Updating site URL in Weebly. This must be done prior to completing the following steps (2pts)
(2) NOTE – Ensure you have created all 4 pages above before completing this step as the
sitemap.xml is based on the pages created – the pages can be blank or minimal. Register your
site with Google Search Console (5pts)
a. Go Weebly>Settings and select the SEO option on the left navbar and then the Google
Webmaster Tools link under the Header Code section.
b. At the Google Search Console, log in and use a Google account to sign in
c. Select URL prefix option.
d. Enter the updated weebly site URL and then Continue button.
e. At the top of the next page, select the top Get Started button and on the next screen go to
the upper right to select Google Console.
f. In the verify property page, scroll down and select Other Verification Methods>HTML
Tag, copy the html tag
g. Go to Weebly Settings>SEO and paste the html tag in Header Code section, save, and
then Publish.
h. Go back to Google Console page and then select verify. This verifies ownership of your
weebly page.
(3) Posting your sitemap.xml in Google WMT (3pts). Note: Weebly automatically builds a
sitemap for you at yourSiteURL/sitemap.xml.
a. Once verified (above), while in Google Search Console, select Index>Sitemaps option
b. Enter sitemap.xml and then Submit. Validate that you see all pages created in Weebly.
Prof Rico Cassoni
CSIT120 Fundamentals of Computer Information Systems (CIS)
Provide a screenshot of the sitemap submission in Google Search Console as part of your
PowerPoint.
Hints for good sites: Many Websites have 1, 2, or 3 column designs. Two column designs will typically
have one skinny and one wide column. Three column designs will typically have a wide center column
flanked on either side by skinnier columns. For sites with multiple columns, you will typically find a
RSS feed related to the site (ie CNN Technology) that will automatically push content from another site
to your site, so that your site stays fresh. Your blog will help generate traffic and interest to your site.
Remember if Google thinks that you site is interesting, they will reward you by ranking your site higher
in a website search.
Here is a (good) sample sites from a previous group: Drone Response 500.
