Annotated Bibliography Instructions
Purpose: To prepare for the term paper you will need to do some careful research.
· The annotated bibliography is a list of citations for scholarly works (i.e., books, articles, etc.), with each citation being followed by a descriptive and critical paragraph.1
· This paragraph, or annotation, is designed to inform the reader of the relevance, importance, and validity of the sources selected.1
· The annotated bibliography should be considered a useful tool in the research process, and can be immensely helpful in identifying quality sources, and in organizing how those sources will be used in your research paper.
Content: The goal of this paper is to investigate a topic of interest in an international setting [i.e., a foreign country (developed or developing but NOT the United States
)]. This annotated bibliography should include:
·
THREE
sources that have been deemed relevant to support your groups chosen topic.
· At least two other sources besides the internet for the paper.
· You may only include
ONE
web source for this assignment per person.
· Examples of good sources for topics of this nature include: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and peer-reviewed journal articles (accessible through the OSU Library website), among others.
· Your annotations need to be based on quality, unbiased, accurate sources.
· If you have questions on what constitutes a “good” source, please let me know.
Requirements: The annotated bibliography must be done in a scholarly fashion. As such, it should include:
· appropriate language, grammar, and punctuation for a collegiate-level writing assignment.
· sources all must be presented in APA format.
· Failure to do any of these may have negative impacts on your grade for this assignment.
1. APA format. The citations should be organized alphabetically by author.

2. The annotation should be concise, but still contain enough detail to summarize the source (approx. 4-5 sentences). Please do your best to synthesize the information in your own words. Do
NOT
copy/paste the abstract from a source.
3.
Following the summary, in one to two sentences, explain how the source is relevant to your chosen paper topic.

Source #1:
UNAIDS. (2015). TB and HIV concept note. Retrieved February 9, 2017, fromhttp://www.unaids.org/sites/default/files/country/documents/XXX_narrative_report_2015
This is a 111 page document, accessible through the UNAIDS website, that covers many areas of discussion regarding HIV/AIDS, including the common co-infection which occurs; tuberculosis. This document discusses the most recent data about the incidence, prevalence, transmittance, and characteristics of the people living with HIV/AIDS in XXXX, as well as offering data from past years in order to give the reader a complete picture of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the country since the 1990’s. This document identifies the three largest risk groups for contracting HIV/AIDS; injection drug users, female sex workers, and men who have sex with men, further establishing the theme which has been apparent in the other studies about HIV/AIDS in XXXXX. An overview of the government’s most current plan to combat HIV/AIDS is also provided, along with the goals they hope to reach by 2030 and the current barriers to success they are facing, such as low levels of civic involvement.
This document is an important resource for the paper I intend to write because it offers a wide range of information, including incidence and prevalence rates, which provinces are most affected and the geography of these regions (Community Level), what the government’s current stance regarding HIV/AIDS is (Public Policy and Institutional Level), the behaviors that put people most at risk (Individual Level), and much, much more. Because of the breadth and depth of the information offered in this source, it will be used frequently throughout my paper to not only establish a history of HIV/AIDS in XXXX, but common themes, barriers to effective policies, and factors that relate to the socioecological model. This document is from UNAIDS, which is a program headed by the United Nations and is considered a reputable source for information; this is my one online/website source for this bibliography.
