2. Read the chapter on families/wives pp. 205-214.

3. Read the articles on wives and housework “I want a wife,” and the article on household chores.

4. view the video on women and work from the Economist.

QUESTIONS!

1) How are household chores typically divided in Western homes and how does it compare with your specific situation? Do you think that housework should have some sort of retribution, like pay, pension, or some other social recognition? How can we bring up our children or encourage legislation to fix any imbalances in the division that you have noted?

How do you explain the data presented in this article about the current status of household chore division? How would you say it compares to the famous essay “I want a wife” written in the 70s?

What are some issues regarding women in the workplace where progress has been made over the years and identify issues that still need addressing. Have any of these issues ever affected you directly? Please make reference to two of our readings in your response. Also respond to another student’s post.
3) Please post a couple of possible final paper topics that you are thinking of, and two sources that support each one. One should be from the UMUC databases, such as Genderwatch. Help your peers choose the right topic and sources for their papers!
4) Read pages in the chapter 310-322 and 329-332, and comment on one aspect of how inequality is perpetrated by some aspect of schooling, such as textbooks, employment and job structure, behavior, cultural expectations, etc. Were you aware of this process before?
Then, choose one question from 3,4, or 5 and answer it.
