GRADING CRITERIA FOR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS

A (9-10/10): All answers are complete and accurate, with fully and clearly explained points,
supported by well-chosen evidence (details, examples, quotes) drawn from the documents. Writing is
absent of mechanical errors in grammar, syntax, and spelling, save for a stray mistake or two.

B (8-8.5/10): Some, but not all, of the answers are of A-level quality. The other answers are also
complete and accurate, but could have been strengthened by fuller and/or clearer explanations and/or
additional support. Writing is basically clear, but some problems with word choice or syntax affect the
clarity of a few points.

C (7-7.5/10): The writer demonstrates an understanding of the basic ideas and information involved in the
assignment. However, some or all of the answers may be incomplete and/or inaccurate, and are lacking in
explanation and support. Writing errors are a consistent problem in terms of clarity.

D (6-6.5/10): Answers contain significant factual errors and confuse important ideas. They are too brief
and lack any pertinent support and cogent explanation. Consistent technical problems in the writing may
also be a problem.

F (Below 6/10): All answers are of non-passing quality in terms of content and execution. They do not
address the specific questions in the assignment. One or more answers may be completely missing.
