becoming increasingly complex, interdisciplinary teams are needed to work together to help avoid errors and enhance patient safety (Klipfel et al., 2014).  Chard (2013) spoke of four key concepts that would enhance the role of the nurse within interdisciplinary team.  These four key concepts are: nurses should practice to their full extent of their education, nurses should shoot for higher level of education, nurses should be partners with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and nurses should be a part of workforce planning and enhancing better data collection (Chard, 2013).  These is true as nurses are the front line to patients and are the ones that provide needed information to physicians, physician’s assistants, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals. 

I am going to refer to the floor I currently work on for an example for evidence-based change.  I work on a floor that takes care of post-surgical patients, so pain management is extremely important in this patient population to enhance healing.  Pain management is a topic that must be communicated with physicians, PAs, NPs, and also patient care technicians.  Nurses must communicate if there are concerns with the current pain management regime.  Patient care technicians need to know what surgery the patient(s) had so they are aware of where the patient will have pain.  Patient care technicians can assist in keeping the patient comfortable, such as repositioning, if the patient is not due for another pain pill.  Overall, collaboration is important in providing patient care and promoting safety.
