Effective collaboration between nurse practitioners and physicians is essential as it results in quality service delivery (Blais & Hayes, 2015). In this case, teamwork ensures that the patients are adequately attended to thus improving their performance in regards to physical and mental health. As an interdisciplinary collaborator, the advanced practice nurse plays the role of adding input in research works for the betterment of a patient’s life. Having undergone through thorough training on how to handle patients, the nurse practitioners are in a better position to provide primary care to patients just like physicians. An interdisciplinary team is composed of health attendants from different fields with the aim of attaining a similar goal of offering quality services to the patients. In this case, the nurse practitioners contribute towards the improvement of care delivery by working together to come up with appropriate diagnoses and treatment mechanisms.
An example of evidence-based change is infectious control, and the nurses perform a critical role in its achievement (Washington State Library, 2016). As primary care providers, nurse practitioners promote health or wellness through disease prevention. Infectious diseases such as cholera can be prevented through taking proactive actions such as educating the patient on the importance of cleanliness. Other health care disciplines such as public health can collaborate with nurse practitioners to ensure quality improvement in healthcare. For instance, in the infectious control, with immunization programs that prevent the spread of the diseases can be initiated.
