1. Antiperlipidemics have been a commonly utilized class of drug in the United States. Discuss some of the benefits and risks that can be associated with the use of HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors (Statin Drugs). Your response should be at least 200 words in length.
2. Describe the structures of the heart focusing on the three layers, the four chambers, and the electrical conduction system of the heart. Your response should be at least 200 words in length.
3. Match the following available anticoagulants with their reported or proposed mechanism of action.
*Coumadin A. Facilitate conversion of plasminogen to plasmin that
hydrolyzes fibrin to dissolve blood clots, or thrombi,
that have already formed.
*Activase B. Irreversibly inhibit platelet activation, leading to
inhibition of platelet aggregation.
* Heparin C. Increases length of clotting time and prevents thrombi
from forming or growing larger. The activity depends
on inhibition of thrombi and clot formation by
blocking conversion of prothrombin to thrombin and
fibrinogen to fibrin, which is final step in clotting
process.
* Ticlid D. Interferes with hepatic synthesis of vitamin K-
dependent clotting factors (factor II [prothrombin],
VII, IX, X), which lead to depletion and prolongation
of clotting times.
