The gallery I attended is University of Minnesota Gallery. This is a global world-class art museum that is found on the East Bank, and it contains a hub for dance, music and also theater. The exhibition was photos, and it is usually done on a yearly basis. In each year, the winning images usually go on tour. The exhibition usually includes many cities in 45 countries and it is still expanding. Usually the exhibition is a showcase for creativity in photojournalism and it stimulates and encourages the work of press photographers. The artist displaying the photos is Jerry Brower Army.

The title of the work is “Light in the Darkness”. The medium used is paint, and this is because the artist painted his works by incorporating various colors. It is relief, and this can be attributed to the fact that the works projects in some degree from the two-dimensional background. The work is painted to scale of small scale. From the works, it is quite evident that the image is small compared to the real situational image. The piece is an abstract, and it can be because the piece is a departure from the reality in depiction of imagery in art. The major subject of the piece is a light presence in the darkness. This might be for the cases that there have been some wrongdoings or some bad situations are ongoing, such as war.

The work is proportionally correct because it is centrally placed. The piece has the focal point, and this is evident by the centrally placed image that had a candle providing light. The work is somehow balanced but it does not occupy the whole space. The work’s color scheme is quite analogous, and this is because the colors are next to each other in the paint. The color of the candle is yellow, followed by somehow yellow, in which case it is analogous. Some matches well and create some comfortable and serene designs.

I think the piece serves or functions to demonstrate that there is light in darkness. That anything that is done in the dark comes out to an end. The artists must have been participating in the World War 11 and he experienced a lot of darkness of fighting and so forth. However, they had to come out successful without being hurt. That is why the title of the work is “light in darkness”.
