Interpersonal Communication Assignment
Group Presentation

The purpose of these activities is to provide you with the opportunity to apply what you have

learned to outside situations and to help you develop and practice your oral communication skills

in interpersonal, small group and public situations. You will work in a group of 3 for this

presentation.

Your group presentation will be a review of a film or film clip as it relates to or exemplifies an

area of interpersonal communication. The target length for your presentation is 20 minutes and

all group members must be actively involved in the presentation. Any video clip or clips that you

choose to use must be limited to no more than 5 minutes of your overall presentation. Your

presentation should:

Introduce your topic.

Briefly outline the interpersonal concepts you are illustrating.

Describe how the movie relates to the concept.

Explain why it is important to you in your life or to society in general.

An outline of your presentation should be provided to the instructor and each student. Grading

will be divided into three areas (topic, content, and presentation) and will take the following into

consideration:

Is the topic challenging? Is it appropriate for the audience and assignment? Was it

narrowed sufficiently?

Is there a clear, well-written thesis statement? Is the thesis statement true to the content

of the presentation?

Are the main points well supported? Are there a variety of sources? Did the presentation

add to the knowledge of the audience?

Did the presentation interest you? Was the interest sustained?

Is the introduction identifiable? Does it gain attention? Does it suggest the significance

of the topic to the audience? Does it preview the content of the presentation?

Is the body of the presentation clearly organized? Are main points clearly identified?

Does the presentation flow effectively? Is it cohesive?

For more information, go to www.newmaneducation.com

Did the conclusion signal the end of the presentation? Did it review? Was there a sense

of closure?

Was delivery poised and confident? Was there appropriate rate? Volume? Enunciation?

Variety? Tone? Was there an effective use of pauses? Lack of vocalized pauses and

interjections? Did the delivery detract from the presentation?

Was eye contact sufficient? Was there an effective use of gestures? Physical movement?

Were notes handled effectively? Did any movement detract from the presentation?

Were video clips used? Used effectively? Did they reinforce the presentation? Were

they handled well? Were they clear and concise?

Did the group seem cohesive? How, in general, did they function with one another?

Were the relationships between individuals maintained effectively? Did all members of

the group contribute equally to the preparation of the presentation?

The movie that you choose can come from the following list but does not have to. Don’t just

choose a movie you’ve seen a million times. Be daring! Research a little bit. Maybe even watch

a few of them you haven’t seen before your group makes a decision. The presentation will be

more interesting if it highlights an aspect or film that we are not extremely familiar with. If you

have a movie that you want to use that it not on the list, see me and we can discuss it. To find out

more about these movies, you can go to www.imdb.com. If there is more than one version of a

movie, it’s your choice as to which one to use.
