(2) 1000 Word Chemistry Essays

Both Reports must be in APA style, 1000 words and at least 3 internet sources however a variety of sources for both is PREFRRED. Further details explaining the rules on the reports are in the attachemnt along with both of the actual reports. Both reports have subsection that you must answer. NOTE, do not merely answer the question you must elaborate on all the given topic while mindful of the wordcount.

Course Topics

Directions: The essays must be written using Microsoft Word format and submitted in class on Final Exam day. You must use at least three internet sources for each report; however, you are encouraged to use a variety of resources. Each report must be at least 1,000 words in length with paragraph sections covering each point. Within the each report you must include an introduction and a conclusion summarizing all the points you covered. Prepare a bibliography page, which list all the sources used within the each report, following the “APA Style of Citation” format. References must be inserted after each sentence or paragraph. You may not use our textbook as a reference. (Note: If you have any question pertaining to your report, you may contact me by e-mail).

Topic 1 – Carbohydrates, Fats, and Proteins (Essay 1)

(1) Define carbohydrate and indicate a number of specific uses of carbohydrates by plants and animals

(2) List three monosaccharide, three disaccharides, and three polysaccharides of importance. Name the products obtain from hydrolysis of specific disaccharides.

(3) Define a lipid and name four subclasses and give examples of each.

(4) Explain cholesterol and the relationship of heart attacks.

(5) Define a protein, list six major functions of proteins and give an example of each protein which is involved in each biological function.

Topic 2- Biochemistry (Essay 2)

(1) Define amino acids, peptides, and polypeptides.

(2) Define enzymes and list the six major categories indicating the type of reach involved.

(3) Distinguish between enzymes, cofactor, coenzyme, apoenzyme, proenzyme, active site, and inhibitors.

(4) Explain the stages of the metabolism of proteins, polysaccharides, and lipids.

(5) Distinguish between the make-up of DNA and RNA and explain their functions in how DNA is replicated.
