Global Organization is an international alliance involving many different countries. There are different types of organizations. An organization is an entity that serves a purpose in a society or community. The Global organization I will talk about will be McDonald’s. McDonalds is one of the Largest fast food Restaurants worldwide. McDonald was founded in California in 1955 By Ray Kroc. Today, they serve billions of people every day, they are known by their delicious fries and Hamburgers. It is also, known by their efficiency making food fast and making customers happy. McDonald employees work really hard on providing different meals at a low cost for their customers. McDonalds Has over 30,000 restaurants locations 100’s of countries globally. This popular franchise makes billions of money every day but still have issues in the global sector (McDonald’s, 2013).
The first McDonalds restaurant was established in Japan in 1971 (McDonald’s, 2013). In Particular this restaurant has a lot of issues due to cultural differences. One of the biggest issues is food preparation. McDonald’s is a business that goes against Japanese ethics, and traditions. Besides McDonald’s there are other businesses that have been expanded globally like, BMW and Ford Motor Company. Furthermore, their approach was different from McDonald’s.
The cultural issue in Japan with food organization is what they are well known for homemade food preparations. Japanese Mothers like to prepare their families foods and organize it. According to Megan, “Obentos are boxed lunches mother in Japan make for their nursery school children. They follow Japanese codes for food preparation; the lunches are arranged and cultural order and meaning” (Megan, 2009). There is a meaning behind the way they prepare meals, is mimicking that the world was created precisely and Japanese are responsible to carry out this tradition. A meal for Japanese it also shows the role of each citizen. Food preparation was a woman’s responsibility. McDonald’s way of preparing food went against their traditions, and beliefs (Megan, 2009).
Furthermore, McDonalds created conflict by not supporting the Japanese Customs. Many Japanese were disgusted with McDonalds. In the beginning McDonald’s only offered American food Style in the Japanese location, but after a few months later they were forced and, had to incorporate to their menu Japanese food tradition. Megan stated, “McDonald’s restaurants experimented with different food items such as Chinese fried rice, curried rice with chicken, and fried egg burger”(Megan, 2009). McDonalds Proves that they stands by their commitment to exceed customers expectation.
Japanese where disgusted because they though McDonalds was taking away what they value a lot, that was eating in the table. At this point McDonald’s not only had to be concerned in Japanese food taste or the way it was organized but they were seen as an organization that want to take their values away. In Japan Foods meant to be together with people they love like friends and family and sit together in the table and eat it. That’s why the first McDonalds in Japan were designed to provide customers with fast food on the go (Megan, 2009).
McDonalds Respond quick to this issue, by adding chairs and tables in the interior of the restaurant. So families could eat together and the table and not lose their values. Once again McDonalds proved that their customers’ expectations are the most important asset to the company (Megan, 2009).
In Japan they tough that McDonalds was an invasion from an ethical standpoint. For the Japanese people it was more important that McDonalds to keep and follow their manners and moral than taking over the new trend. People from japan are really rigid with their believes, that is why they forced McDonald’s to change the way they run their business, but not only McDonald’s had to change the Japanese people had also, to change their traditions so they would support McDonalds. McDonald’s proved that it takes time to make a
