Question 1

Exercise is an important activity, as this bears various benefits for an individual. A major benefit of exercise is that it helps in the promotion of weight loss and ensures weight maintenance. In the case of weight loss, exercise helps to control the weight of an individual by using excess calories, which the body would otherwise store as fat. This therefore, helps to reduce the amount of fat that the body would have stored, and which is a major contributor to weight gain in humans. Normally, calories are great determinants of the body weight of an individual. Therefore, higher calories mean the greater body weight, and vice versa. However, exercise is beneficial, as this burns down the excessive calories in the body, thus reducing fat accumulation, and in turn promoting weight loss.

On the other hand, exercise is beneficial to an individual, as far as weight maintenance is concerned. In this case, therefore, in order for an individual to ensure weight maintenance, he or she must engage in regular exercise. If one exercises only over a period of time and stops, this might lead to weight gain, and lack of weight maintenance. Therefore, to ensure that one does not gain extra weight, they must exercise regularly. Therefore, physical activity should be part of an individual’s lifestyle, in order for them to maintain or control their weight.

Question 2(a)

It is important for an individual to delay sexual activity until they are older. This is because of the consequences an individual might experience, if they engage in early sex. First, delaying sex helps one to avoid contracting sexually transmitted diseases. At a young age, one might lack the wisdom of using protection while engaging in sex. Therefore, at an older age, one is at a good level of making sound decisions regarding sex and protection. Delaying sex until one is older also helps one to avoid experiences of partner violence. At a younger age, a sex partner might manipulate the younger partner and even hurt them physically. Finally, delaying sex until one is older protects from depression and psychological harm. At a young age, an individual might be easily depressed after experiencing detrimental effects of early sex, including low academic achievement and pregnancy. However, if one is older, they are able to deal with any consequences of sex, if any, after they engage in it.

Question 2 (b)

For various reasons, it is more advisable for one to limit the number of sexual partners they engage in sex with. First, having many sexual partners exposes one to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. This is especially in cases where one fails to protect themselves. This is because, the different sexual partners one has also engage in sex with other different people, who might be infected. Additionally, having multiple sexual partners might lead to psychological effects, as an individual might suffer depression and overall poor mental health.

Question 3

According to Fisher & Black (2007), the three major types of contraceptives used in Canada include condoms, oral contraceptives, and sterilization. These are different, thus used differently. Nonetheless, a major difference in these three is based on their capability to prevent STD’s. In this case, therefore, of the three methods, only condoms can protect from both pregnancy and STDs. However, all the methods can prevent pregnancy, if used well. Additionally, another differentiating factor of the three methods bases on their users, whether it is males or females, or both. Nonetheless, condoms can be used by both men and women. Similarly, sterilization can be used by the two sexes, as it can be performed on them both. On the contrary, unlike condoms and sterilization, oral contraceptives can be used by women only, due to biological reasons. Another differentiating factor of the three methods bases on their influence on an individual’s biology or hormones. In this case, oral contraceptives are hormonal, and most influence hormonal growth in women. This also applies to sterilization, which influences an individual’s hormones. Finally, the aspect of being permanent or temporal also differentiates between these methods. For instance, while sterilization is permanent and non-reversible, the use of oral contraceptives and condoms is temporal. Nonetheless, all the named factors differentiate the three methods; however, each method has a varying preference among the people.
