The first three sections of the paper were very underdeveloped. They were worth a combined 60% of your paper and were addressed in 1 1/2 pages of a 6 page minimum paper. Section 1 needed to be at least 1 page long if written in the most concise manner, you offered 1/2 page. this area needed much more development and analysis (-36). In section 2, there was no rationale given as to why your choice was better (-18). Section 3 needed more development and discussion justifying why your choice was the best, how we could have ruled out other options (-30). Section 4 was your best area. You did have some match rate issues here. Certain parts of the business plan were taken word-for-word from another source, no credit was given. Focus on originality–this was YOUR business plan afterall (-10). You had more than enough references for full credit. Make sure to use 1st level headers. These are bold, centered and indicate what the section is about. I emailed out a template to use that included these. Please look for an email with a template for paper #2 in week 7. Center the term ‘References’ per APA guidelines. (-2)

To Build or Buy
The Café will be a new kind of convenience store/internet café. It will have the normal products of a convenience store with a modern relax feel to it. The Café will be a blend of a traditional convenience store with a Starbucks feel. I will offer free Wi-Fi, tables and chairs for a place to eat and surf the net or for students to come in and do homework. I will try to offer a lower price than other stores in neighboring communities. We will offer a menu of sandwiches, pizza and other foods. Fresh coffee will be offered all day with many blends and brews.
The Café will provide basic goods needed for daily functions at school and the workplace. Whether basic office supplies, personal goods, or other necessary goods, The Coffee Break will have ample supply at a low cost to the customer. (Convenience Store Soda Fountain Business Plan, n.d.)
I would purchase an existing convenience store in my neighborhood. It is the only store in the city and a few changes can bring in more customers and give them a better environment in which they can relax and unwind. The building a large and can accommodate the new business. Some remodeling will be needed to accomplish the relaxing feel of The Café. Equipment and landscaping will be needed.
The building is located in the heart of Tamms, IL and it is the only convenience store in the small city. It has been around for more than 40 years, but it doesn’t offer much and the variety of items in the store is very minimal. If people wanted to go grab a quick bite or want some coffee, they have to travel almost 20 miles to get them. Buying this business and upgrading it can bring in revenue and it will re-energize the customers it has right now.
A limited partnership would be the most appropriate form of ownership for my business. I would need an investor in the business, but I will be managing and running it. The partnership is relatively easy and inexpensive to establish. Limited partners are financial investors who do not participate in the day-to-day affairs of the partnership and seek to limit their risk. (Scarborough, 2012)
An investor would be needed as of my financial situation is not that great. I rather have a limited partner just to invest in the company and I will run it and their risks would be minimal.
Business Plan Outline

Market Analysis Summary
Studies have shown that most customers to a convenience store are 18-35 years of age and male. This has led others to focus on females and individuals who are over 55 years of age. While convenience stores are nothing new, we will distinguish ourselves from that genre and focus more on a cafe/store emphasizing on convenience. (Convenience Store Soda Fountain Business Plan, n.d.)
Strategy and Implementation Summary
We will focus mainly on customers located within a close proximity of The Cafe.
Word-of-mouth will be our largest market promoter. Students and business people will find the convenience and quality of The Cafe to be one that others should know about. In order for initial customers to be found, a distribution of flyers will be an inexpensive way of notifying those on campus. With word-of-mouth and concentrating on the concentrated market, we will be able to assist more customers at a higher level of quality while also conserving efficiency.
Sales Strategy
Similar to that of our marketing strategy, most of our sales strategy is related to location. In order to keep sales high, The Cafe will provide a fun, relaxed atmosphere while offering a plentiful stock of goods. By starting with 2-month’s inventory, we will be able to see initial customer’s demands and work with our distributors so that we can maintain a variety of goods at low costs in time efficient manner.
Competitive Edge
The Cafe will not only offer convenience, but good quality foods and goods. We’ll offer a feeling of nostalgia by operating a soda fountain and internet access to the basic convenience store. We will also will provide high quality beverages, including a small coffee bar. We will provide a variety of meals and snacks that are tasty and nutritious.
Our location, merchandise, and attention to customer service will put The Cafe ahead of competition. (Convenience Store Soda Fountain Business Plan, n.d.)
Management Summary
The Cafe will operate under the owner, Joseph Westbrook. At start-up there will be 3 other employees, this will be increased as the market shows demand for more assistance.
6.1 Organizational Structure
Owner, Joseph Westbrook, will be sole manager while The Cafe gets established. All employees will answer directly to Joseph Westbrook.
6.2 Management Team
Joseph Westbrook, is owner/manager. With many years of experience in leadership. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Strayer University.
The need for additional managers will be evaluated based on our personnel need and budget.
6.3 Personnel Plan
The Cafe will start with 3 employees, along with owner. From there, we will be able to determine the need for additional help. (Convenience Store Soda Fountain Business Plan, n.d.)
Financial Plan
This section will outline the important financial assumptions, key financial indicators, break-even analysis, profit and loss, cash flow, balance sheet, and key ratios. (Convenience Store Soda Fountain Business Plan, n.d.)
This is my plan for The Café a great new place for a small town.
