Option 1: Watch a movie about mental illness
Choose a movie/television
show from the list
This list is only a partial listing of movies available. HOWEVER you need to be able to
watch the movie to do the assignment.
Watch the movie/television
show
After viewing the film, I want you to provide a BRIEF summary of the film. ***NOTE: I
have the ability to check your assignment for plagiarism – this means that you need to
watch the film and do your own work rather than looking up the movie on the Internet and
getting the information there! I WILL KNOW!!!***
Identify the psychological
disorder in the film
Give specifics regarding the symptoms the character(s) display(s) – you must give me the
disorder, the symptoms, and give examples of specific behaviors or characteristics
demonstrated by the character(s) that make up those symptoms
History of the disorder
using the textbook and
other resources
Symptoms—DISCUSS ALL symptoms of that illness and point out the ones that the
character of your movie/television show demonstrated. When I say DISCUSS, I mean talk
about and explain them—do not just list them out; Onset (When does it usually start);
Causes (Discuss traumas, situations, learning theories, development that can cause the
disorder to appear—think about specific chapters of your book); Specific population of
people who are affected by this illness (if applicable); Biological differences (look at
Chapter 2 and other resources that discuss brain difference, genetic differences, and other
bodily differences that may be present)
How is the disorder usually
treated
Medications (ALL and explain the differences between them and how they work)
Talk Therapies (EXPLAIN HOW THEY WORK with this illness; be sure to include
some
basic ideas—like examples from the movie if possible)
Society’s Perception Provide information on how society (people) usually reacts to this disorder. Why do they
act this way? What has led to them acting this way? What do you think about this illness
now that you have finished this paper?
Why? Tell me why you choose this movie? Why did it interest you?
Tell me how you can use the information you learned in this paper in your daily life?
(Might be able to relate it back to the society view requirement)
References MUST have 5 references cited appropriate via APA. I would like to see academic
journals—preferably published within the last 5 years.
Length PAPER OPTION: 5 pages, double spaced. 12 point Times New Roman font. The 5
pages do not include the reference page or title page. An outline and title page are not

THE 5 pages. Please put your Name in the heading area if NOT using a cover page. Save

Entries are organized alphabetically by surnames of first authors and are formatted with a hanging indent. Most reference entries have three components:
Authors: Authors are listed in the same order as specified in the source, using surnames and initials. Commas separate all authors. When there are seven or more authors, list the first six and then use “et al.” for remaining authors. If no author is identified, the title of the document begins the reference.
Year of Publication: In parenthesis following authors, with a period following the closing parenthesis. If no publication date is identified, use “n.d.” in parenthesis following the authors.
Source Reference: Includes title, journal, volume, pages (for journal article) or title, city of publication, publisher (for book).
