  • Continuous versus discontinuous development
  • Critical and sensitive periods of development

Explore two of the three pervasive issues surrounding child development.  Along with a definition for each, provide an example from your own experience with children (e.g., as a child yourself, your own children, your observations of others) and a research finding about the issue. Your initial response should be between 200-250 words.

The developmental stage that I have chosen is early childhood

Three ways I will meet the needs of children to support their language development in early childhood.

There are several ways in which one can meet the needs of a child and support their language development. Her, I am going to discuss several way I which I would meet the needs of a child in the early development stage and how I would help in supporting their language. Being a professional in this field, I surely understand the immediate needs of children in this stage and I know all the necessary steps that should be taken to ensure that these children have a good development in their language. It is not a easy thing to do, but one must understand the children first before trying to assist them in their needs. You will need to get close to them and try to understand each child personally as different children have different types of needs. There are those who will need more attention and there are those who will need less time and little attention to develop their language skills. After understanding this, one will now have an easier task of dealing with each child according to his or her needs. Special attention should however be on the children who have special needs. They need to be treated with special care as they will take more time than the rest of the children to understand and also develop language skills.

The other important thing is to develop a program that is well planned.

High-quality programs should be planned and applied by people who have skills and are knowledgeable about the young children and their process of learning. But even the best professionals usually find it helpful and rewarding to teach in the early childhood programs which use a curriculum as the focus for learning. A curriculum in early childhood gives an educator a clear vision of what a program that is appropriate for a certain age looks like and also a structure for making decisions on how to achieve the vision.

I would set up a Curriculum in early childhood include the following three components:

· Content-This will encompass the subject matter, the goals and objectives that I have for children’s language learning.

· Processes—This will explain and guide me how to teach, and state the ways in I will ensure that the children will achieve the objectives and goals of the curriculum.

· Context— It will encompass the physical setting the setting and the environment where the learning will take place.

With the above-mentioned processes I will surely help the children in their language development
