First, obfviously the price is open for negotiation. Just let me know how much you will do it for – IF, and ONLY IF, you are Positive you can do it. Otherwise, do not bother.DO NOT bother trying to take it on if it is going to be AT ALL questionable whether you can get this completed within 10 hrs. I need to get at least 90% on this assignment if you decide to take it on as well. File is attached. Again, it has to be 10 pages- and then some (don’t exceed 11).
Please read each question carefully and think deeply about the best way to provide a comprehensive response. Each question should be typewritten and proofread. Provide well-researched responses that reflect your understanding of the importance of the sociological investigation of issues and social phenomena. Examinations must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013.
1. You are now at the mid-point of the semester. The
sociological imagination
reframes the ways that individuals see and know their world. Specifically, the sociological imagination requires its users to place all observations within a socio-historical and biographical context. C. Wright Mills (1959) provides guiding questions all sociologists must consider when engaging the sociological imagination.
Discuss how Mills demonstrates his usage of each of these questions as he places his personal sociological lens upon the study of the “power elite.” As you discuss the key points of the first four chapters of the Power Elite (1956), demonstrate how Mills employs his own questions in this very important sociological exposition. It is important that you provide examples from the text in your response.
Finally, discuss the relevance of his analysis of the growth, maintenance and influence of the celebrity class in 1956 as you think about how recent discussions focusing on Kim Kardasian, Beyonce or Miley Cyrus illuminate the influence of celebrity in contemporary society. Provide examples.
Your response should not exceed four typed pages (40 points). You must demonstrate familiarity with the discussions of how the sociological imagination is applied. Thus, you must cite the text sources including Think Sociology and Reading in Sociology and of course, The Power Elite
2. When we discuss the sociological lens, it is important to understand that the lens must be adjusted in order to fully interrogate our observations. Sociologists adjust their lenses to adapt for macro and micro sociological analyses. The study of culture and cultural contexts is a very important area of study for sociologists and anthropologists. In order to understand cultural transmission, one must understand the socialization process and the role of various agents of socialization and the importance of social structures within a particular society. The three dominant sociological frameworks (structural functionalist, symbolic interaction, and conflict), prepare sociologists to formulate questions that examine social interactions that are determined by cultural contexts from a micro and macro levels of analysis.
Ritzer (1992) and Watson (1997) both discuss culture through what they assert is a major universal cultural artifact and symbol- McDonalds. As you discuss the above concepts, share your insights about the “Mcdonalization” construct as a lens through which to examine any cultural context.
Your response should not exceed three typed pages (35 points). You must demonstrate familiarity with the texts’ discussions, including Think Sociology and Readings in Sociology, discussions of culture, social structure and interaction and the McDonalization framework. Thus, you must cite text sources.
3. All sociology majors are required to complete a senior thesis. While you may have not finalized your topic yet, demonstrate your understanding of the structure of a sociological thesis. Prepare a practice mini-thesis focusing on either your identified research question (s) or one that you are thinking about to demonstrate your understanding of what is required. Your practice thesis should include:
a) A three paragraph statement of your research agenda(s)
b) A very brief discussion of existing scholarly literature focusing on your area of research. (two sources)
c) A discussion of at least one theoretical framework and how it can be used to address your topic. (two paragraphs)
d) A discussion of at least two methodological research tools you will use to investigate your topic ( two paragraphs)
e) A discussion of why you believe that protections must be made for human subjects, i.e., Allan Brandt,Racism and Research: The Case of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study
Your response should not exceed three typed pages (15 points). You must demonstrate familiarity with the texts’ discussions of Sociological Research, including Think Sociology and Reading in Sociology, focusing on Research Design and Methodology. Thus, you must cite text sources.
4. Discuss the significance of the following terms to the study of sociology. Provide concrete examples. You must demonstrate familiarity with the texts and class discussions of these terms. Each response is worth 2 Points for a total of 10 points.
