Watch the instructional videos provided in the link.  Also review the content in sections 4.10 and 4.11 of your e-book Business Research Methods by McClave on Sampling Distributions.   Based on this information, what is the sampling distribution of the mean and why is it important?  Suppose one collects a random data sample of 100 participants and the sample mean is 20 with a sample standard deviation of 5.  What can we say about the distribution of the sample mean?

It is important for you become proficient making probability and percentile calculations to solve the problems in your Problem Set assignments. This DQ will help to get practice making some of these calculations.

 

Review the instructional videos found at the YouTube videos links provided.  They teach how using StatCrunch to make probability and percentile calculations for the Normal probability distribution. 

 

Use the information provided in the videos to create two problems and then calculate the solutions using StatCrunch:

1)    Probability calculation with the Normal distribution.  For example, for the Normal distribution with mean = 10 and standard devitation = 8, what is the probability that Z is less than 9.5?  (Calculate with StatCrunch and give the answer.)

2)    Percentile calculation with the Normal distribution – For example, for the Normal distribution with mean = 7 and standard devitation = 4, what is the 85th percentile?  (Calculate with StatCrunch and give the answer.)

 

Note:  Do NOT use the 2 examples above when you make your calculations.  These are only examples.  You should make up your own problems.  Each student should create and solve different problems.  Thanks.
