he instructions say “You will have six sentences,” but that’s in ADDITION to the “should” question for each topic.

 

In other words, for each of the value-conflicted topics you identify, you will have a “should” question about policy (for example, “Should the US bomb Syria?” or “Should the military reinstate its ban on women in combat?”) AND two answer sentences, one reflecting the views of each side. You will end up with a total of nine sentences, three of which will be “should” questions.

 

Remember to use MLA formatting for the homework and to cite all sources in MLA style.

Homework: Newspaper Topics

From newspaper articles:

· Identify three current, value-conflicted topics.

· Type out each topic as a “should” question.

· Write one-sentence summaries of each side’s perspective. (You will have six sentences.)

Include full citation of sources.

Notes: use credible newspapers (national ones such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal; or local ones such as Austin American-Statesman, Dallas Morning Use, Houston Chronicle, etc.). Avoid school newspapers, very small town newspapers, and special-interest newspapers.

“Current” means roughly within the past year.
