USING TECHNOLOGY TO INCREASE ACADEMIC SUCCESS
There is no doubt that technology has become part of our lives
in recent times. There has been an increased proliferation of technology in our day today lives in the last few decades more than in other time in human history. People are now using technology even to conduct the simplest tasks on a daily basis. Cellular phones, laptops, desktops, tablets and many more other forms of technological gadgets have become part of our daily lives. People of all ages are using technology but there is no doubt that the youths spend more time in front of their computers more than any other age group. Just like technology has changed different spheres of our daily lives, so has it changed the education sector in a profound way? Technology has made it easy to access and disseminate information. It is important to note that technology does not however change the message sent to the students by their teachers but it is only a means and therefore not an end. Technology does not change the students’ abilities to grasp and also retain the information.
In recent years, schools have integrated technology in the classroom to enhance learning. This kind of inclusion of technology in the classroom is known as technology enhanced learning (Mariah, 2012). There is no doubt that the inclusion of technology in learning has improved the students’ performance academically in a significant way. It is however important to note that technology enhanced learning has also faced certain challenges. This has mainly resulted due to lack of a good understanding of the effective approaches when making the choice of technologies to include in the classroom.
The other major challenge that is facing the technology enhanced learning is the fact that most teachers in the learning institutions are using technology to teach students instead of using it as an educational tool (Mariah, 2012). It is therefore important to be selective on what technology to be included when implementing it n the curriculum to avoid loosing some important aspects in learning. In a word therefore, when used properly, technology enhanced learning can increase academic performance and also enhance learning among the students. In this regard therefore, if technology is going to be beneficial to the students will depend on various factors. Teachers for e

ample need to be competent with the said technology; the degree of the classroom usage of the said technology is also very critical (Mariah, 2012). Teachers need to understand that they are supposed to use the technology as an educational tool and not substitute it as a teaching method.
Curriculum developers who are entrusted with the implementation of the technology enhanced education should therefore be careful when selecting which technology to include in the curriculum. It is well known fact that the way in which information is delivered or distributed does not always change the message but is important to note that the method of incorporation and delivery of technology may affect the absorption and retention of information (Daly, 2013). It is therefore important for the curriculum developers as well as the teachers to emphasize on the information and not the technology to avoid altering the development of students.
Integration of technology in the classroom can be very beneficial to the students and therefore leading to high levels of production. Balance is however very important when integrating technology in the classroom. Institutions that intend to integrate technology in their class work need to be aware of what the teachers as well as the students alike are likely to lose when exchanging the information after the new technology is introduced. This is so because it is not all classroom work that warrants the use of technology (Daly, 2013).
Technology extent in the classroom
About a 100% of the public schools in the United States of America have reported having access to the internet connection. 97% of these schools have also reported to have a broadband connection (Hogan, 2013). There are various technologies that have been incorporated in the education system. Some of these technologies include the interactive videos, electronic blackboards, complex gaming, mobile learning tools as well as immersive technologies.
The role of technology in increasing academic performance
It is undoubtedly truthful that the use of technology enhanced learning can increase the students’ academic performance according to previous research done regardless of the student’s background, socio-economic background, gender or race. If technology is used in the right way, it can greatly increase the students’ performance, increase the participation of the family in learning as well as increase the teachers’ competency (Smith, 2000). Integration of technology in education increases the students’ communication and interaction as well as their collaboration; it also improves in a great way the issuance of instructions on the part of the teacher to the students, improves the students’ presentations and organizational skills and more importantly plays as a motivator to the students.
What makes technology Enhance learning among the students?
Previous research has proved that the incorporation of technology in the classroom can enhance learning and improve their academic achievement. It is however important to note that for this to happen there is need to have some factors in place. There is increased temptation by the teachers to use technology in teaching instead of using it as a tool to assist in the learning process. To avoid this move that could be detrimental to the entire learning process, there is need to have clear and balanced objectives (Smith, 2000). It is important for both the teachers as well as the students to have a clear understanding of why the technology is being used before its implementation. It is important for both parties to understand how the new technology is going to meet the educational objectives and goals. In this regard therefore, both students as well as the teachers will be reading from the same page as far as the introduction of the new technology is concerned. The new technology is supposed to help in maximizing the results. It is therefore meaningless to use the technology just for the mere fact that it is available. Technology should only be used by the teachers and the students to enable them reach the set educational goals that were unobtainable or posed difficulty in obtaining them without the technology.
Teachers’ competence in the use of the technology highly determines the success of incorporating the technology in the classroom (Hogan, 2013). School administrators therefore need to pick those teachers that are competent enough to implement the technology in the school. in cases where there are no such teachers, the schools can pick on potential candidates to go for orientation courses. Teachers do not necessarily need to be experts in the new technologies but with past experiences they can be in a position to use the technology by incorporating it in the curriculum. It is therefore very important for the school administrators to set aside time and resources to train the teachers on how to use the new technologies. As the teachers get more competent in the use of the technology, they are easily able to adopt it in their teaching styles and therefore do not waste too much time focusing on the technology but rather use it to pass the intended information (Mariah, 2011).
On the other hand, the learners must have to some extent control of the learning process. This is important since it makes the students to have a sense of ownership over the learning process which is vital in improving the learning. Sense of ownership among the students increases their motivation and allows the students to take an active role in the learning process. However, it is important to note that the level of control given to the students should vary depending on their age and also the subject matter (Mariah, 2011). However, teachers should always know that they are the facilitators and should therefore continue to guide the students throughout the usage of the technology. This is important to make sure that the students adopt the proper uses of the technology for them to maximize their benefits.

Instructor Comments
Some concerns:
You are using the first person perspective, especially in the introduction, which is incorrect for a research paper. The paper must be written in the third person. You should not refer to yourself (I or we statements) or address the reader (you statements).
The title page and reference page have errors that were previously indicated but not corrected.
You have not included an effective conclusion, which sums up what has been shared in the paper.
I have reservations that this paper was written by you, as it does not reflect the writing style or command of English that you have previously demonstrated in the classroom. My concerns will be noted on your class record.
