ASSASSIN KILLS
KENNEDY
LYNDON JOHNSON SWORN IN
2 | Page
A Day to Remember
DALLAS, Friday, November 22- John F. Kennedy was fatally shot by a sniper while traveling through Dealey Plaza. As President Kennedy waved to the crowds on his right with his right arm upraised on the side of the limo, a shot entered his upper back. The bullet penetrated his neck, slightly damaged a spinal vertebra and the top of his right lung, exited his throat nearly centerline just beneath his larynx, then nicked the left side of his suit tie knot.
The First Couple left the White House for a political trip to Texas. President Kennedy’s motorcade route through Dallas was planned to increase his exposure to Dallas crowds before his arrival at a luncheon with civic and business leaders in Dallas. Kennedy was accompanied by Vice-President Lyndon Johnson and Texas Governor John Connally.
Governor Connally, which was seated in front of the President and three inches more to the left than the President, was also critically injured. Doctors later stated that his wife, Nellie Connally, pulled him onto her lap and the resulting posture helped close his front chest wound.
Nothing could be done keep the president alive. At 1:00 P.M. CST, the President was pronounced dead. “We never had any hope of saving his life,” one doctor said.
Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson became President upon President Kennedy’s death. Johnson had been riding two cars behind President Kennedy in the motorcade. He refused to leave for Washington without President Kennedy and his widow. At 2:38 P.M. CST, Vice-President Johnson took the oath of office on board Air Force One just before it departed from Love Field, with Jacqueline Kennedy at his side.
Kennedy’s assassination affected America in many ways. For one, security has improved dramatically. Presidents are watched over every second of the day. It’s almost impossible to get close or harm the president due to the United States Secret Service.

Two Gunmen Fire on Students
COLUMBINE, Tuesday, April 20 – in the small, suburban town of Littleton, Colorado, two high-school seniors, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, enacted an all-out assault on Columbine High School. The massacre occurred during the school day. The two students planned to kill hundreds of their peers. Officials say the students were armed with heavy weapons such as guns, knives, and a multitude of bombs. The two students walked the hallways murdering. By the end of the day a total of twelve students, one teacher, and the two murderers were dead; 21 more injured.
Shooting begins 11:19 A.M.
Harris and Klebold walked toward the school after realizing the bombs they placed in the cafeteria failed to explode. At this point, both were armed. They climbed to the top of the outdoor West Entrance steps, placing them directly above the cafeteria. At 11:19 A.M., witness heard Eric Harris yell “Go! Go!” The two gunmen pulled their guns from beneath their trench coats and began shooting. At that point, Rachel Scott was hit four times and killed instantly. Richard Castaldo was shot eight times in the chest, arm and abdomen. He became paralyzed below the chest.
Police response 11:22 a.m.
At 11:22, the custodian called Deputy Neil Gardner requesting assistance in the senior parking lot. Five minutes after the shooting started, and two minutes after the first call, Gardner was engaged in a gun fight with the student shooters. By this time there were already two dead and ten wounded.
Suicide of perpetrators
At approximately 12:08 P.M., Patti Nielson overheard Harris and Klebold shout in unison then a sound of gunfire. Both had committed suicide.
The crisis ends
By 12:10 P.M., SWAT teams were stationed outside the school. Ambulances started taking care of the wounded. Authorities and SWAT teams entered the school at 1:09 p.m., moving from classroom to classroom discovering hidden faculty and students.
This massacre will change America’s schools around the country. As security improves, schools may be built in pods to help prevent things like this.

MAN WALKS ON MOON
1 | Page
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” – Armstrong
HOUSTON, Monday, July 21- Men have landed and walked on the moon. The United States saw the final leg of the Moon Race after the flight of Apollo 11. Two Americans, astronauts of Apollo 11, steered their lunar module safely and smoothly towards the moon yesterday at 4:17 P.M, Eastern day-light time.
The Apollo 11 crew consisted of 38-year-old Commander Neil A. Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin. These men were selected as the crew in January of 1969. They trained for the mission until just before the actual launch day.
Neil Armstrong radioed mission control: “Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.” They’ve landed near the southwestern shore of the Arid Sea of Tranquility on the rock-strewn plains. Mr. Armstrong opened the landing craft’s hatch about six and a half hours later. He stepped slowly down the ladder and declared as he planted the first human footprint on the moon: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
His first steps were recorded at 10:56 P.M. There was a television camera outside the lunar module craft that transmitted Armstrong’s every move. The television camera was viewed by hundreds of millions people back on earth.
The moon landing made a very big political impact on the world, because it put the United States ahead of the Soviet Union in the space race. President Kennedy promised America to send a man to the moon and successfully bring him back to earth. This trumped the Soviets’. The Soviets didn’t want to give up. They still were interested in demonstrating their ability to dominate the space race.
The moon landing caused a big impact around the world. NASA plans to have high-powered telescopes in space in the future. Allowing us to see further into the universe than ever before. This will helps us understand more about who we are and whether we’re alone in the universe.
