THIS IS WHAT I WROTE FOR THE LAB ASSIGNMENT
1. Describe the following playground area and equipment

Playground surfaces (grass, sand, wood chips) + There were a lot of grass, with little woodchips were the sliding bar, and monkey bars and swings were located.

Playground equipment (swings, slides, climbing apparatus,) + There are swings, slides and climbing apparatus that were in great shape and appropriate for this age kids . 3-5

2. Supervision of children while on the playground is essential. Describe how the teachers interact with the children to help prevent accidents.
Teachers first explain to the student’s safety while playing on the playground for example to walk up the stairs and slide down the slide way board. Do not walk up the sliding board, also explained to the students that they should not throw dirt at each other. Teachers should pay close attention to the students playing by observing.
3. Observe a preschool classroom and describe how the following help to make a safe environment.

Floor surface (clean, non skid, no spills) + The floor is very clean in the building. A clean floor surface prevents students from getting germs and infections. If there is no spill, students cannot fall and hurt themselves.
Furniture (no sharp edges, shelves, arrangement) + Furniture’s are adequate for this grade level pre k . The furniture’s need to be arranged so that students will not be in danger with hitting their head and the edges need to be smooth and rowed
Temperature (well-ventilated, comfortable temperature) + The temperature is comfortable not to hot or too cold. Children’s tend to get sick with the changing of different climate or temperature.
Lighting (windows, overhead lighting) + The classroom has plenty light this will help children with their vision.
Cleaning solutions + The cleaning solution is locked in a closet or a storage. It could not be open by students. Because it could be hazardous or poisonous to students.
Electrical outlets, cords + The electrical outlets are protected with plastic covers. This will prevent students from sticking something in the area to prevent injuries.
Cubbies/ places for personal belongings + Each classroom have cubbies to put their personal belongings so that their belongings will not be in the area to prevent injuries.
Smoke detector + Every classroom have a smoke detector with working batteries in case of a fire the alarms will sound.
NAEYC accreditation expiration date + The expiration date is valid. This is very important because it makes sure that the facilities are in right standing with the state guidelines.
4. Observe an infant classroom and describe how the following criteria help to make a safe environment.

Diapering area (describe the diapering procedure) + The changing diapers is very clean it has a clean pad where the baby will be laying. The aide should be wearing gloves. There should also be wipes.
Toys pass the No-choke test + All the toys are not smaller then as a baby fist. Toys smaller than the baby fist can cause baby choke.
Bottles labeled/ Feeding infants + Each bottle is labeled with the bay’s name on it to prevent germs from spreading. Baby should be held in an upright position when feed.
Toys disinfected + All toys are disinfected daily to prevent the spread of germs.
Cribs + All cribs are clean linen and the rails are secured to prevent falling accidents.
Extra clothing + Every Infant have extra clothing because they tend to spit up or soil their clothes.
5. Medication:

Administration + The Early child hood and daycare have nurses on duty to administer medications with the permission from a doctor and parents. Every school or day care should have a nurse on duty.
Storage + All the medications are locked secured in the nurse storage with a key lock. All the medications need to be locked for secured.
6. Handwashing is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of disease. Watch a teacher as she washes her hands. Describe in detail, step by step the procedure.
The teacher administered soap in her hands and she lathered the soap and scrubbing front and back by singing happy birthday to me after she finish singing happy birthday she rinsed her hand with warm water and she used paper towel to dry her hands.
7. Observe the bathroom area. Describe the items and list any safety or health issues related to items relating to the bathroom.

Floor + The floor is clean and polished. There is no excess water on the floor where students can slip or fall.
Toilets + The toilets are very clean and nice and appropriate for small kids, students can reach them with no problem.
Sinks + The sinks are very clean and appropriate for small kids they can reach them with no problem.
Soap/towels + The soap is in a soap dispenser and there is paper towels on the counter everything is on the students size they can reach them with out a problem.
8 Locate the items need for emergencies. List the items.

Emergency numbers + The emergency numbers were on the wall . Where they can be located at all times example 911
First Aid Supplies + The first aid is stored in the cabinet which include band aids ointment for burns. Or insect bites
Emergency supplies (flashlight, fire extinguisher, battery operated radio) + The emergency supplies are stored in the file cabinet and the fire extinguisher is on the wall.
Emergency escape route + The emergency escape route is located on the side door of the classrooms,
9. Observe a meal time with preschoolers. Describe what you observed.
Meal Observed Comments and Reactions
Interaction between teachers and children + The teacher makes sure that each student had eating utensils and assist with opening their milk.
Family style or plate service + The students had lunch trays
Clean up + Each student put their tray on the counter for the aid to pick it up and their trash in the trash can.
Well balanced meal + Students had their meat, vegetable and dairy products as well as fruits of course in children’s portion.
Food Dealers Permit + A food permit is posted on the wall and it is valid.
