of this information should be already located in those papers and the purpose of this is to
provide a blueprint that you will use as a guide to write your final proposal.

Sections of the Outline

1. Introduction
a. Go beyond simply introducing your topic.
b. Provide background context, explain why your research is important, and

clearly state the problem or gap in the existing research that your study will
address.

c. Include a short discussion of why the topic is timely and relevant
2. Literature Review

a. Be specific and ensure that your research question or hypothesis directly
addresses the gap or problem you’ve identified.

b. Clarify how answering this question will contribute to the field or solve a
specific issue.

3. Methodology
a. Go into detail about your study design, including how you will select

participants, the tools or instruments you’ll use for data collection, and your
approach to data analysis.

b. Justify your choices – explain why these methods are appropriate for
answering your research question. Include any ethical considerations you
need to account for, such as informed consent or confidentiality.

4. Timeline
a. While the example offers a basic timeline, your timeline should be more

specific and realistic.
b. Break down each phase of your project, include deadlines for important

milestones, and describe what steps you will take to ensure your research

5. Conclusion
