Course Description
This course integrates the five processes that define project management. Students will design a project management plan to accomplish an organizational objective. Other topics include project initiation, budgeting, communications, execution, team management, control, and closure.

You could plan a wedding, design and build a house, develop a video game, launch a new business, and so on. Individual Project Management Concepts and Applications Paper |
Select a current or past project you have been involved with in your organization or community. Write a paper of no more than 1,050-word that includes the following elements: · A brief description of the project, including an identification of the primary goals of the project · A description of how this project met the definition and characteristics of a project as defined in Ch. 1 of Project Management. Why would you consider it a project rather than day-to-day work? · A description of the organizational structure, based on the structures discussed in Ch. 2 of Project Management. Explain how this project fits within the organizational structure. Explain the pros and cons of the organizational structure in terms of the project outcomes. · A description of the culture of the organization that includes concepts from Ch. 3 of Project Management. How did the cultural norms affect this project from a positive or negative perspective? Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines. |

Learning Team Real-Life Project Management Plan Phase One |
Collaborate with your Learning Team to develop a project management plan based on the topic your team selected during Week One. Write a project scope statement. Develop a project charter. Create the work breakdown structures (WBS) in Microsoft® Project®. Design the communication plan identifying the key stakeholder groups and their project information needs. Create a table summarizing what information will be produced during the project lifecycle. Prepare a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation of no more than 10 slides illustrating the phase one project deliverables. Include the following elements: · Explain the steps taken by the team throughout phase one of the project plan. · Discuss how the team finalized the scope statement. · Elaborate on how the WBS was developed. · Provide justification as to why the specific stakeholders were chosen for the communication plan. · Explain where the project stands according to the project life cycle. Deliver the presentation in class. |

Real-Life Project Management Plan Phase Two |
Collaborate with your Learning Team to finalize development of the Real-Life Project Management Plan. Develop a project schedule. Determine the project budget. Develop a risk management plan identifying five specific risks, and explain how the team would mitigate each risk. Create a change control plan that includes the following elements: · Describe how changes to the project scope, timeline, and budget will be requested, reviewed, approved, reported, and communicated. · Discuss how changes to the project schedule and project budget will be managed. Prepare a 7- to 10-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation illustrating the phase two project deliverables. Resources: Riordan Manufacturing Virtual Organization on the student website, and University of Phoenix Material: PM/571 Final Project Incorporate project management deliverables developed during Weeks Two through Six into a comprehensive project management plan that includes the following elements: · Project scope statement · Project charter · WBS in Microsoft® Project® 2007 · Communication plan · Project schedule in Microsoft® Project® 2007 · Project budget · Risk management plan · Change control management plan · Steps taken to assemble, develop, and manage the project team · Explanation of how you will manage project execution · Importance of project sponsorship and project leadership during project execution · Method of measuring and reporting project progress and performance · The rationale for your choice Include additional sections describing the project retrospective process and the project closedown process for the project. Determine how the project retrospective process and project closedown steps relate to each other and the overall project structure. Submit comprehensive project management plan as a Microsoft® Word document. Develop a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation of no more than 10 slides illustrating the main points from the Riordan Manufacturing Project Management Plan. |
