Nice job with this response!  You mentioned two important forms of the common linear equation (standard and slope-intercept).  There is one other form of a linear equation that is used with some frequency.  Do you know what that form is?

You mention several times the terminology “Cartesian graph”.  This is the formal name for our x-y graphs.  Do you know the more common name?  Do you know who the “Cartesian graph” was named for?

There is a subtle difference between equations and expressions.  Likewise, there is a subtle difference between the words “solve” and “evaluate”.  When do we use the term “solve” and when do we use “evaluate”?  How does that relate to this discussion question?

An expression is a mathematical phrase that can contain ordinary numbers, variables (like x or y) and operators (like add, subtract, multiply, and divide).  It combines numbers and/or variables using mathematical operations.  Expression shows a math relationship and has no solution.  An example for an expression is, a+b.  An equation  is a pair of expressions which are connected by an equal sign (=). An equation states that the expression on one side of the equal sign has the same value as the expression on the other side.  Equations can be solved.  An example of an equation is, a+b=c.  A function is a set of mathematical operations performed on one or more inputs (variables) that results in an output.  Functions are subsets of equations.  f(x)=x+2 would be an example of a function.  The “x” is a place holder, it is just there to show you where the input goes and what happens to it.
