What would be some of the challenges facing a manager of a resort as vast as the Wyndham?

I’ll admit, as a consumer, the first thing I do when I enter a hotel room is grab the comforter and throw it in a corner.  
Many hotels are going to a faux comforter.  I’m not even sure what it is called.  They make up the bed with fresh linenes and throw a decorative strip of fabric over the foot of the bed. (see attached photo)
What are your thoughts on this?  Good idea, and why?  Or, a waste of money, also why?
