What are some examples of products that you think would benefit from conjoint analysis? What features would you test for and why is the analysis interesting? Choose one of these products and discuss specifically how a company can make pricing decisions based on conjoint analysis.

Identify a product that you use on a frequent basis for which the market is segmented by the maker.  Which segment do you belong to? What segmentation techniques does the seller use? How well do you think you *fit* with the seller’s target group for your segment?

  • Find an example of a product whose founders/originators intended for the product to be used a certain way, but whose customers used it a different way.  What were some of the factors that led to the shift in purpose/usage for the product? How did the company handle the consumer reaction?
  • Almost any pricing model from Economics 101 would suggest that consumers are rational actors who will want more of something when the price goes down, and less of that good or service when the prices goes up.  But are there are any products that become more desirable to consumers because of their high price?  If so, why?
  • In Python, what are packages?  How can they make our lives easier as Python users?  Demonstrate by performing a task in Python ‘from scratch’ (i.e. without the help of a package) and then by performing that same task after making an import statement.  (you may either upload an HTML file generated in Jupyter Notebook that includes your code, results, and written statements, or a screenshot of your results in Jupyter along with your written statements  — either way is fine).
