Introduction
Human resource management is an important area for the organization. Regarding human resource management, it is important for the organization to make sure that it is working for the purpose of making sure that it has efficient employees working for it, and the employees carry out the organizational activities in a proper manner. With the help of achievement of targets within the organization, there will be a case that the organization shall be in the position to have its targets achieved in case, there will be a situation that the organization will ensure that it provides good opportunities to the employees and cares for the safety of the employees to a larger level in the future.
Key Functional areas of Human Resource Management
The first functional area of human resource management is training provided to employees within the organization. Training is a process which is designed for providing knowledge to employees and skills for the purpose of carrying out the organizational activities. Second functional area is compensation and benefits for the employees (Martin, 2008). Regarding compensation and benefits, the employees in the organization are provided rewards for their better performance in the workplace at a point of time. The rewards are provided to the employees for the purpose of motivating them to a larger level.
Third functional area is regarding safety and health of employees. The organization ensures that the activities of the organization are carried out in such a manner that best safety is given to the employees. The health of the employees within the organization should be at the top priority of the organization at a point of time. Fourth area to be taken into account is employee and labor relations. In the organization, the organization should use methods such as collective bargaining for the purpose of ensuring that positive employee and labor relations are achieved.
All these functional areas do help a great deal for the purpose of ensuring that organizational activities are carried out in a positive manner in the future. Regarding the functional area of training, employees will learn the manner of doing the activities and will carry out the organizational activities in an effective manner. The second functional area of rewards will help in motivating employees to a great deal for ensuring that the employees carry out the organizational activities with a positive frame of mind (Armstrong, 2006). Third functional area is the area of safety and health of employees. Regarding this area, organization will make sure that it achieves the targets regarding safety of employees and satisfies those targets to the highest possible level at a particular point of time. Fourth functional area is in relation to relations with employees. Regarding employees, the organization will make sure that it does not get indulged in any kind of dispute with the employees of the organization at a point of time.
Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Laws
First federal equal opportunity law is Equal Pay Act. This law helps in protecting men and women who carry out same kinds of activities in relation to sex based discrimination. There are cases when, women in the organization are provided lower level of wages in comparison to men even though same activities are carried out by them. Second law is Age discrimination in employment Act. This act protects employees of the age of 40 years to 65 years from discrimination regarding age. Third act is Equal Employment Opportunity Act. This act helps in ensuring that the employees are not discrimination within the organization on the basis of age, religion, class or any other area.
Trends in Organizations
The trends in relation to the organizations include the aging population, diversity and skill deficiencies. These trends are making impact on the organizational activities to a certain extent. Regarding the trend of aging population, the impact on the organization is that the activities of the organizations are not being carried out in a proper manner. The aging workforce is not in the position to carry out the activities in an appropriate manner. The efficiency generated by young population is not the same as it is for the population which is young. The diversified workforce is making the work of the organization easier in comparison to a workforce which has same kind of employees.
With the help of diversified workforce, it will be possible for the organization to ensure that the employees get the knowledge of the manner in which they need to interact with the people of different communities (Amso, Ristow, Pearse & Ristow, 2009). A diversified workforce will find it easier to have the understanding of behavior of the people around the world at a particular point of time in the future.
Third trend is regarding deficiency in skills of the employees. Regarding the deficiency in organizational skills, it will be not be possible for the organization to make sure that there is a case of improvement in the functioning of employees. The employees will find it difficult to make sure that their activities are carried out properly as they will not have the knowledge of carrying out the organizational activities at a particular point of time. The employees will take time in completion of the organizational activities and organization is expected to incur losses at a point of time due to slow working of the employees to a larger level in the future.
Workplace Flexibility
Workplace flexibility is a situation when, the employees and employer are in the position to make sure that they adjust with the working conditions at a point of time. It is regarding the manner in which the employees in the organization should carry out their activities for the purpose of making sure that the activities within the organization are carried out in an effective manner at a particular point of time. The organizations require that there is a case of workplace flexibility to a larger level for the purpose of achieving desired results for the organization at a point of time.
Regarding response to workplace flexibility, the first way of response of the organization will be regarding resistance. The employer of the organization and employee may resist the change which is brought within the organization. For example, if flexibility is to brought within the organization regarding change in the working hours of employees then, the employees will resist this change if the working hours of the employees in the organization will increase to a larger level.
In case, the organization has to reduce the working hours of the employees, then, there will be a situation that the employer will resist the change. The employer might want fixed working hours within the organization in place of flexible working hours. This particular thing will result in the situation that the employer and employee will have some kind of conflict at a point of time.
