ACC 691 Module Four Group Discussion Guidelines and Rubric
Your active participation in the discussion topics is essential to your overall success this term. Discussion questions are designed to help you make meaningful
connections between the course content and the larger concepts and goals of the course. These discussions offer you the opportunity to express your own
thoughts, ask questions for clarification, and gain insight from your classmates’ responses and instructor’s guidance.
You will participate in three case study group discussions throughout this course and will be randomly assigned into a small group for each group discussion. The
specific discussion components for the Module Four group discussion are listed below.
Module Four Case Study Group Discussion: “Hocus Pocus”
In this group discussion, your small group will analyze the ways in which four different companies were overstating their revenues, as discussed in Chapter 4,
entitled “Hocus Pocus.” Please select one of the four companies to discuss in your initial post. Make your selection based on alphabetical order of the first names
of students in your group. For example, Alejandro (Company 1), Ben (Company 2), Jana (Company 3), and Mackenna (Company 4).If there are fewer than four
students in your group, you may leave one topic unaddressed and if there are more than four students in your group, you may double up on topics.
Topics:

  1. Sensomatic
  2. Xerox
  3. CUC
  4. Insignia
In your initial post, analyze the following aspects of your selected company:
 The participants and the way the fraud was committed
 Preventive controls and weaknesses/red flags
     Fraud discovery and evidence
 Nonfinancial information in this case study
In response to two peers within your small group, discuss any similarities and differences of the two cases. If you must duplicate a company, please be sure to
select two different companies for your two responses.
For your initial post (1), you must do the following:
 Compose a post of one to two paragraphs for your assigned topic.
 Complete the initial post by Thursday at 11:59 p.m. of your local time zone.

 Take into consideration material such as course content and other discussion topics from the current module and previous modules, when appropriate.
For your response posts (2), you must do the following:
 Reply to at least two different classmates within your small group outside of your own initial post thread.
 Complete the two response posts by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. of your local time zone.
