New Belgium Brewing Company’s mission statement is to operate a profitable company that is socially, ethically, and environmentally responsible, that produces high-quality beer true to Belgium brewing styles (Wann, 2001). The company focuses on its four core values to attain its mission. These four core values are: make world-class beer for everyone, do right by people, inspire social and environmental change, and have fun (New Belgium Brewing Company, Inc, 2021).
New Belgium founders wanted to develop a culture of engaged and enthusiastic workers. Upon incorporation, transparency with staff regarding all matters was implemented. To develop more buy-in to the company, an employee stock ownership plan was created. This ownership resulted in a 41% employee-owned share. In 2013, New Belgium became a 100% employee-owned company once the founders sold their remaining shares (Goodman, 2015).
